My school unfortunately has a committee. 🙄

I roll my eyes, because it's a real shame that they aren't very helpful. In fact, they are quite the headache as I'm sure isn't so unusual. They have no part in educating the pre-professional community within my school, and our pre-professional club is a joke of a club that meets 3 times per year over trivialities.

With that said, I'm worried that I may not get a stellar recommendation from my committee. The reason I say this, is because there are three members on the board, one of which was my Organic 2 professor. I earned a C in his class, but the semester ended with confrontation. Basically, I ended the course with a 79.92% and did not receive a B. However, my best friend ended the course with a 69.2% and received a C (standard 10 point grading scale). Anyway, I went to talk about this and the professor got extremely defensive and accusatory so I decided to keep my mouth shut knowing I would encounter him again later in the committee.

Anyway, trivial stories aside, that dude has a huge saying in my recommendation. My school weighs their decision on referral 90% on grades and 10% on EC's. This leaves 0% for MCAT. My grades aren't crazy, but should be in the realm of 3.4c and 3.5sci by the time I fill out the committee paperwork. I could have a 43T and still get "recommend with great caution", like they gave to my buddy that had a 3.3 and a 37 .

Has anybody gotten a sour committee letter and not submitted it? I'm also applying to my state allo school, so I'll need it there, but I'm afraid this might soil my chances if Dr. Dick is still unhappy with me.

TL;DR 😴

Anybody got a bad committee letter? What did you do next?

Skip the committee letter and get two science, and one physician letter yourself.

I absolutely need it for my state allo school. They're 30 miles away and will know something is up if I don't have one.

If I get a "recommended with caution" I probably won't even waste my money applying there.

I'm just wondering how wrong it is to withhold a committee letter from osteo schools if I have one. I'll have no trouble getting the other necessary letters. I feel like I'm hiding a transcript or something. :scared:

Skip the committee letter and get individual letters instead. From my knowledge, all it takes to be complete at a osteo school and be considered for an interview is you send them all the required letters along with secondary plus fee. I highly doubt that schools go through the trouble of checking if a particular undergrad offered a committee letter or not for every single applicant they get. Imagine, how much work would that be. Plus, none of the secondaries I received ever asked if I had the option of getting a committee letter and decided not to get one.

I meant for DO schools. If it's a requirement for Allo then obvi you know you gotta get it. But withhold it for DO schools as two science, one physician is perfectly fine.
