Does anyone see any problem whatsoever with taking a history class at a community college? I'm talking even a little problem, so be as anal retentive as you want in replying to the question. Thanks.

Are you just doing it for cost issues?

If so I don't see a problem.

No problem. I took physics through community college.

6 interviews, 1 acceptance...so far.

I've already been accepted to the med school I'm going to go to anyways. Also, its actually going to cost me more to take it at a CC because my school has a flat rate tuition policy. I'm talking about in the future, like with top ranked residencies or for fellowships and the like. Thanks for the reponses.

I think liberal arts courses are okay at community college. My premed advisor recommends not taking science courses there, just to be safe, but I don't really know. I didn't take any science courses there, I just took English COmposition over the summer to save $$$. I've had lots of interviews and I am accepted, so it must not be a problem.

That being said, if you take it there, you will have to send that transcript from the community college to AMCAS and any non-AMCAS schools, even if your home university gives you credit and lists it on your transcript. The interviewers don't always have what courses you took, they just have what schools you attended. SO, several times, I have been asked why I transferred from community college to Pitt, because it doesn't say that you only took one course there. It hasn't been a big deal, I just explain it, but don't be surprised if people ask about it.

I was going to say that some schools would query it if it were science but probably not for history - but then you're already accepted so...I don't think it'll make the slightest bit of difference by time it comes to residency/fellowship etc - they'll probably be looking almost exclusively at your med school recommendations/transcripts by then.

Oh see, the fact that they even bring it up is shomewhat disheveling, isn't it?

I think you are worrying too much, geez. Just tell them it was more of a convienence thing and had nothing really to do with academics.

How many med school interviewers asked you about your high school experience?😉

actually every single one!!

OP-
I took a Physics course at my local community college. I did it for convenience reasons, as well as financial.
As an anecdote, I met with an AdComm member at SUNY Syracuse. I discussed my plans of meeting the pre reqs with a course taken at a community college, and she felt it was okay...but also said I should go as far as to "explain why I HAD" to take a course at a comm, co. as opposed to a 4 yr. in my applications, since the issue would certainly come up with AdComs.

I did my first two years of undergrad at a community college, including ALL of my science prereqs and I have gotten lots of interviews and have been accepted.

If AdComs are not put off by it during the med school app. process, they certainly are not going to care by the time you get to residency/fellowship stage. At that point, what really matters are your 3rd year clerkship grades, USMLE I scores, letters of rec, etc.
