So I am finally to the end of my pre-reqs and have to take 1 physics course with lab. I am taking my DAT in late April and was ready to apply this June with the new cycle.... the only problem is my university I have been at is not offering the physics course I need this summer or upcoming fall. I found the equivalent course at a community college. This will be the only community college credits I have except for some English and psychology from 2010 when I began college.

I am struggling with the fear that if I take this physics course at a community college it will be looked down upon on my application? When simply it's that my hands are tied and I can't take it anywhere else...

Any suggestions on what to do? The counselor says it's more likely to show up winter 2017, but by then I get worried it will be too late and that I will have been passed over during the application cycle due to lack of completion..

Any suggestions.

I took Physics 1 and 2, Bio 1 and 2, and Gen Chem 1 at a community college and it didn't hurt me. I got into all of the schools I was competitive for including my top choice. Physics is a bogus pre-req anyway!

If there are pre reqs to take at a CC its the Physics classes... Im gonna have to take both at a CC as well

Just don't bother applying to Tufts or BU unless you will retake the course it sounds like next year will the same predicament. They will not accept Physics from a CC under any circumstances. I got in Tufts years ago and they are VERY rigid with the prereqs

Thank you all so much! I was freaking out about this, finally found an online course, but was told some schools don't accept online physics as an acceptable credit even if there is an in class lab... I just keep getting problem after problem thrown at me...

Don't stress it, I'm taking physics at a CC right now. Most schools won't care about one physics course at a CC. They would probably prefer it be done at a CC than online.

I thought that was only Tufts, not BostonU?

If in the odd chance you do apply to Tufts (or BU), look at the re-take as a blessing. Sure, it might be a waste of time and money. For other students, they may look at this as a GPA-boost - an example of a glass half-empty, half-full situation. At a community college, class sizes are smaller and teacher-faculty interaction is a lot more favorable than that in a 4-year college (especially a public school). This will maximize your chances of doing well in your Physics and Organic Chemistry pre-requisites, and having seen the material already, you can maximize your chances of getting a grade in the A-/A range at a 4 year college. In fact, a lot of students take AP courses in high school, then end up re-taking the course at college even if they got a 3 or higher on the AP. This is a huge edge for college students already having exposure in Advanced Placement Chemistry, Calculus, Biology and Physics from high school. For those that haven't seen the material in a prior class, these subjects can be quite overwhelming and contribute to these courses being a "weed-out" class.
