So I'm pretty familiar with the schools that aren't too thrilled with CCs, but are there any that are "CC friendly?"

I took EVERY one of my prereqs at a CC which is now apparently a state college - don't know if that makes a difference?

Any insight would be appreciated

Wow. Thanks a bunch! I noticed Marquette is on there now :/ that's unfortunate, I already applied there and would have liked to at least had a chance. I wonder if the schools that are against it would be more forgiving considering i took A TON of upper levels at uni and maintained a 3.9 GPA? Blah. Any miracles out there? Starting to feel like my community college stamp makes me look like 'I haz a dumb.' 😛

I took all of my prerequisites at a community college. Average DAT score 19aa/ts

4 interviews so far.

THERE IS HOPE! Congrats 🙂 👍👍 Which schools were you invited to interview? (if you don't mind me asking)

I am at a 4 year school now holding a 4.0 here and at the CC.

I haven't been accepted yet but I am so thankful of receiving these interviews.

just do your best and you will be fine!

I'm so jealous! I applied to all those schools with my 19AA and 20TS and I didn't get interviews yet :/ But my GPA is a 3.5 haha and I sent my application like 2 weeks ago so that might be it LOL

I'm with dentalmental, totally jealous! that's incredible though!!. I'm applying super late, but hopefully my stats will at least be enough to land me an interview from nova and lecom! (florida born and raised!)

I was accepted to a few Ivy-leagues but attended a CC after taking a year off anyway due to financial difficulties; don't worry too much about it; besides some schools out East, most dental schools won't skip over your application if you've proven yourself capable of handling rigorous scientific coursework at an accredited four-year university and achieve competitive scores on the DAT.

that's wonderful! thanks for sharing. It's refreshing to hear we're not all automatically rejected for not being 100% traditional. Did you apply early? If I don't get in this cycle, I reckon I'm gonna dish out another grand or so and apply early next cycle. ohh boyyyy. $$$$$

I still haven't applied to dental school, but I've read enough threads and personal messaged enough members who are in dental school to know that many community college students have been accepted into dental school. However, by applying early you immediately give yourself an advantage; that kid with a 3.7 GPA and 21 DAT at a four-year university may be more competitive than you, but if he applies too late you may not have to compete with him for an interview.

Right. Ds deans are known for cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

I'm coming from a CC too and have asked this question or researched it for a lot of schools. Though there is that stigma against people coming from CC, it ultimately should not affect your admittance, since they should be holistically looking at GPA. That being said, someone coming from Stanford with a 4.0 GPA compared to someone from CC with a 4.0 will inevitably be looked at with bias, but that's where they dig deeper into courses taken, volunteer hours and the a big ol' deciding factor: the DAT 😳

DAT is just to level the playing field for all of us CC transfers/graduates so we can prove that we'll be awesome dentists 🙂 so don't give up hope! You can still stand out to the best schools especially with your rocking GPA and a nice set of DAT scores! GOOD LUCK!

p.s. I say SHOULD not affect, but there are always schools who just brush off CC applicants, but overall if you stand out how could they say no?? 😉

I have 3 interviews so far and took all my prereqs at a CC (minus Biochem which I took at a 4-year). Do your research and apply to schools that will accept CC credits.

Just got interview #5 at my state school.

I applied to UF, nova, LECOM, UCLA, USC, Midwestern Illinois, U Maryland, case western, Marquette, and NYU (regrettably, apparently the latter two are not too CC friendly) :/
