Hi,

I guess I’ll keep it brief. My first two years of college, I was pretty immature. I made the assumption that because I was at community college, my GPA wouldn’t really matter. Unfortunately, I found out that was rather stupid decision on my part after realizing medicine was my calling.

My community college GPA is something near a 3.5 (45ish hours taken here) *cringe*. Science GPA might be around there too – 3.4ish.

My four-year university GPA is a 3.8 and my science GPA is a 3.7 (65-70ish total hours taken here). Both my four-year overall and science GPAs have a pretty strong upward trend.

I’m dead focused on raising my four-year GPA to near a 3.9 before I graduate. I’ve had a 4.0 the past three semesters. I'm taking the MCAT in August, but do you guys think GPA is going to be a big barrier for me? I don't have a preference so much towards M.D. or D.O., but I would like to know my shots at both.

Best wishes,

AMSRebel

Your GPA is fine for DO and MD. Impossible to say what your chances are until you get your MCAT scores. Best of luck to ya.
