Community college question

I was wondering if it is possible to finish a biology and/or chem halfway through the series at a university and complete the rest at community college. Will I need to restart the entire series at the community college again or no? I need help. Any comments would help.

you dont really want to do that...because a semester of lets say chem at a CC is a quarter and a half of chem at a university...so they will give you credit for the first quarter and you still need to take 2 more quarters of chem.

so it will transfer over...but because of the semester and quarter differance...you loose out a bit.

hope that is clear...it is because 3 quarters of chem equal 1 year...but at a community college...2 semester equal a year.

I was told by one of the admissions receptionists, "not to bother going to community college to fulfill your prerequisites, since you won't look as competitive." That caused me to drive an hour each way, 5 days a week since May 05 to finish my prereqs. I just spoke with one of the ODs I work with, though, and she was under the impression some of her classmates had gone to CCs. I would ask to speak with the admissions folks (not a receptionist) if you want a straight answer...The sooner the better. It would be a shame to spend a year at a CC and have them tell you afterwards that they don't suffice. If you find out that CC credits are fine, let me know so I can beat down that lady who gave me bad info .

If you contact admissions they can ususally give you an equivalency list of courses at whatever school you are trying to attend. I know UH for sure does that; i told the the college i went to and the cc I wanted to attend and they told what they would and would not accept. So ask. I don't think you can mix and match between the two though. But depending on the course and how the cc's course description is worded they may accept it. I took psychology at a cc and it worked for my degree and for optometry school. I was also going to take an anatomy class and UH said that was ok. So call the school(s), get the equivalency list, and ask LOTS of questions.

Community college classes are fine. I took all my englishes, gov'ts and historys at a CC. I also know of several people who took prereqs like organic, and physics at CCs and they were accepted to UHCO.

Keep in mind that if biology is your major you can't take your major courses at a cc.

I took all my biology and chemistry pre-reqs at a CC, and I was admitted to both schools (SCO and UMSL) I applied to.

Now I'm irritated. Had I known that, my life over the last year would have been slightly easier (about 10 hours a week less in commuting to get to the University for the last year).

In my opinion the only thing that matters is OAT scores. Get over 300 in all categories on the OAT and get at least a 2.5 and you'll probably get in.

Really? That's pretty encouraging since that's what I'll probably have, but my gpa will be just a slight bit higher and my extracurriculars are severely lacking.

I took government and history at a CC. I also re-took prereqs after my BS at a CC to bring up some grades. I was still accepted to the schools I applied to.

Just call the schools to make sure EXACTLY which courses count at community colleges. (a lot don't) Also, make sure you don't take major sequence courses at the CC.
