Hi guys,
This might be an obvious answer, but I'm just curious if the D I had gotten in a class during community college (high immaturity in my earlier years) will be taken as a factor for my GPA to med schools. Explanation: At the college I transferred to, and am now attending, they do not accept grades below a C, so for them it just was dropped and they don't factor it in to my GPA or mention it at all in my degree audit. I am taking it over soon because it's a pre-req, but to them it's as if I had never taken it before. Would this be considered a retake to med schools therefore only making me eligible for DO? I'm not opposed to DO at all, FYI. Thanks in advance, just wanting to get my ducks in a row.

Retakes are no longer factored in differently for DO schools. They dropped their grade replacement policy and is effective May 1st (meaning unless you applied for the 2017 cycle you cannot use the policy). You are required to submit a transcript from EACH school that you have attended for college credit. This means you must submit a transcript from your University and a transcript from your CC. Both AACOMAS and AMCAS require you to enter in grades from every college course you have taken, retake or not. It does not matter if your university did not include the D on their transcript as it will show up on your CC transcript. Both AACOMAS and AMCAS view a retake the same as a brand new class. Many colleges have a grade replacement policy that drops the D or F from your gpa calculation but AACOMAS and AMCAS do not care about your colleges grade replacement policy or what your GPA on your transcript says. They have you enter in all college courses you have ever taken and they calculate their own GPA.

A single D freshman year isn't really going to matter. At the end of your 120 credits, it will only affect your GPA .03ish points anyways which is not significant. It's also your freshman year so it carries the least amount of weight of any of your years. Don't worry about it, just focus on getting all A's with a fews B's and you will be fine.

Thank you so much for all the helpful information and setting me straight! Hope you have a great weekend 🙂
