Community programs in NY area

I'm trying to get some info on some of the community programs in the NY area, such as Bronx-Lebannon, Maimonides, Harlem Hospital, Lennox Hill, St. Luke's and Winthrop. Any thoughts on how they are education-wise? How competitive are they? What kind of stats do you need to get in?

It's NY, so I'd guess those places are very competitive. Most of them are in the city.

To clarify:

Bronx-Lebannon, Maimonides, Harlem Hospital, Lennox Hill, St. Luke's and Winthrop

Maimonides is in Brooklyn
Bronx-Lebannon is obv in the Bronx
Harlem is on the upper west side, manhattan
Lennox Hill is upper east side, manhatta
Winthrop is WAY out on Long Island
St. Lukes is mid west side, manhattan

From what I have heard -- Lebannon didn't fill last year. They take a wide variety of candidates and scores from what I understand. I wouldnt ever begin to place numbers on programs, because I do not know first hand any cut offs. I would also place St. Luke's in this category.

Harlem is associated with Columbia. They get lectures from them which bolsters the program, though they dont have the best technology in the world there.

Winthrop seems to be a wonderful places to learn and they have good machines. Maimonides seems like a good place as well (from hear say).

Lennox Hill, I have heard good things about and very competitive due to location, UES is good place to work, live -- and not TOO loud like the UWS.

All in all you cant go wrong. They would be a great fit for some and not so great for others. Keep your options open and good luck!

Thanks for directing me to that thread. I found it and it's definitely very informative. What's not discussed over there is how competitive these programs are. Does anyone here have any idea what creds you need to get in those programs? I need to match in the NY area so I want to know to how many of them I should apply.

In general, most of the NY programs are excellent. BLEB, Maimo, Harlem in the metro NY area are decent, with some technology that is awaiting imminent upgrade. However, if you need to be in NY, go for all of them. In total there so many residency programs in NYC. Community or "academic" there are many options

Slightly north - NYMC/Westchester
Bronx - Jacobi, Montefiore, BLEB
Brooklyn - Maimo, Downstate
Manhattan - Beth Israel, Columbia, Mt. Sinai, NYU, St Lukes
Long Island - Winthrop, LIJ, StonyBrook, North Shore
Staten Island - SIUH

I see there is no mention of St Vincents Hospital Manhattan. It sees like a mysterious program as no one ever speaks of it despite its great location. Does anyone have insight into this program. Are residents there happy?
