How many schools require community service for graduation? Does this have to dental based community service or just general community service?

Many schools have externships where you have to go out and work for 2 weeks (UCSF). Some have community service programs you have to commit to for a little bit (NYU, I think). There might be some which require none, but have clinic outreaches you can participate in.

you just gotta remember that you want a well rounded application, the more you can get the better you will probably look so its a plus. if you can do it, DO IT!

I know Penn does. I think it's 75 hours but with all the stuff they have to do there I wouldn't be surprised if they meant 75 hours per year.

i know howard has a lot of community service, but that is because i have been going to their various outtings... most are dental related... they go to homeless shelters and perform dental screenings and take blood pressure, cholesterol, gluclose, ect... they just screen children at elementry schools, head starts, various large picnics and other events in the city... they go to a lot of fun stuff too like festivals and help out... i assume that most schools have similar programs (well the schools that are really clinical) because this is just more exposure to all different kinds of people which is really what you need... oh you have a lot of opp. to go to outreach clinics... howard has a lot of hours, but some events count as 2... oh and they go to the breast cancer and ms walks... and raises money and do the walk... but i bet most schools do have this as a graduation requirement... this would be great to post in the Dental School forum... i bet they would love to respond... eventhough everyone is in exams right now🙂
