There are probably at least 20+ microwaves, 6-10 fridges, an ice machine, sinks, etc. so hopefully microwaving shouldn't take so long. Usually getting to lunch a little early or later will take care of that problem. As far as lunch goes:

- Subway: Tried to do this the first few weeks, but got old. Make sure you get your card and stamps (1 stamp per half foot).. 8 stamps gets you a free sandwich! Veggie sandwich isn't that bad and it's cheap too. Good breads to grab..
- Taco Bell, KFC, and Weinerschnitzel: Just down on Mission Blvd. Lots of people walk here so it gets busy though. Weinerschnitzel is Dr. Bale's favorite place to eat.
- El Pollo Loco, Church's, Jack in the Box: All on Holt between Garey and Towne.
- Local places: This is probably half the fun of lunch so try walking around and finding where everything is. I don't remember half of the little places I went to, but I always heard there was great food everywhere. Lots of Mexican food, burger shops, etc. as well as other stuff like Thai food, Vietnamese food, Chinese food. Some of the mom n' pop places are the best (just don't get sick there!)

Asyoung- btw, I'm a guy. =p

mah bad too...i thought you were a girl...LOL

oh, okay. Guilty as charged. I am one of those who browse, but doesn't post much. I am a non-trad so, I am cruising in that forum usually.

So, hello everyone!! Today was nice! Felt I had an opportunity to talk to people more...instead of sitting in a lecture hall having to be quiet. Hopefully in lab classes we will be able to talk and get to know each other better! 👍 It looks like the MSII's have a pretty good bond. Hopefully, our class will be like that.

See you guys Monday early in da morning 😱

Welcome! We got lots of non-trads (JMC and I are also both non-trad too) Anyhow see ya Monday morning 😀

reading the backlogs I noticed a lot of talk of hold 'em .... can a Texan get in on this next time around?

See everyone tommorrow.
Hey asyoung... where in Texas are you from? I moved around in TX quite a bit for a couple years (Brownwood, Amarillo, DFW area, and my favorite... Plainview)..

Does anyone know if all the lectures will be in Prem Reddy Hall? I just want to make sure. I'm assuming the anatomy lab is located somewhere else. Tonight, I'm just going to skim over the anatomy notes on superficial back (for Tuesday's lecture).

First of all I must admit I'm from the Portland area up in OR originally. That aside, I been living in Houston, TX for the past 6 years...

Remember to have fun! 😎
I do feel sorry for you folks though...Kiick for ALL of Biochem and a separate Immunology course from Khan.

Good Luck.

"And with regards to this, that's the take home message, that's what I want you to come away with."

ok all you peeps...since school has already started and I still don't know if I met some of you...so to help out a bit...if you guys/girls don't mind posting up your real name or try to introduce yourselves to each other in class, that would be just gravy.

My name is jef.

since ryan already let the cat out of the bag...yes, i'm working on a BBQ at my place probably aug 21st...should be a saturday...THIS IS ONLY A MAYBE...still working on completely moving in.

How's it going. I'm Andrew.

It's hard to associate people on here with people I've already met--especially since I've met so many people and forgotten so many omre.

Man, what a day! Developmental Histology was great because Dr. May went over the basics at a fairly leisure pace for all of us to catch up. I can tell he's done this for a long time because he's so good at it. Microbiology was cool because Dr. Felton has a great sense of humor. A lot of material from micro overlapped with histo. I was glad that Biochemistry class was over early, so we could have the opportunity to sign up to become members of SOMA. What a great deal - $60 membership to become a member for 4 years with all the perks and the Netter textbook/CD-ROM, which retails for ~$100 in the bookstore. Was it just only me or did the anantomy class bore me to death. I was literally sleeping with my eyes opened during the lecture. It's nice that the school provides us with lab coats for gross. One thing that sucked was one of the two person had to take home the bone box, which is really heavy. Anyways, have fun studying tonight guys!

LET THE FESTIVITIES BEGIN! 👍

Is it just me or does it seem like Anatomy is going to be really difficult especially for those that haven't ever taken anatomy before. So we're supposed to know all the bones, and yet it seems as if that would be like taking a class in itself.

I was just looking over the anatomy notes on the superficial back and it's like reading a foreign language because there's so many terms I don't know. 😕 Anyone else have this problem?

Having same problem.

Put in the Netter CD and hold 'alt' when you click the names of each muscle/bone etc. (the happy little robot voice repeats over and over as you repeatedly click each term).

Repetition is the mother of skill. Happy clicking Sense.

I'm starting to think I should have bought the CD. 😱

bones are a class all by themselves- it's called osteology and usually only us dirty hippie anthropologists take it. i thought it would help but as it turns out being either 1) crazy smart or 2) a freaking PT before med school are the only two things that seem to consistently make a difference.

honestly darling you need to cozy up to a stedman's. look up roots of terms (almost all of them are latin or greek) and see why they have the names they do. it helped me see them as having these descriptive names than being something abstract. the bones are tough if you've not familiar with them but it's not that bad. it's important to think of attachments on different parts of the same bone and why they are in their particular places.

it's also helpful to get a whiteboard and a minimum of like 6 differnet colored dry erase markers to draw things like the brachial plexus and all those crazy blood vessels in the axilla and arm.

this first section is heavy on muscle actions, nerve lesions and what branches from what. the later sections aren't as convoluted as this one.

you'll do fine- just think of how stupid newtonian physics sounded when you first got wind of it. whomever thought that towing a cinder block up an incline was such a rad idea was an a$$hat.

Thanks for the advice jack. 👍

It would be nice if others in our class would post, but hey, it's their choice. Maybe they're shy or doesn't have much to say.

Ok, you caught me. I browse but don't post. I do look forward to meeting you all and wish you the best of luck!!

Actually when I went over it on Sunday I had the exact same feeling. I ended up studying with both the dead body book and the Netter's open in front of me and it still took forever. I think it's going to be a long semester....

As to the bones, an ISAC student said that we definitely need to know the bones. I think if we review the bones for a particular region as we go through that's enough. That given, I know where the scapula is, as well as where the vertebrae are, now. That's about it though.

And as a tribute to Dr. Jack I am now drinking beer...

Hi, My name is William. I wanted to know if people are willing to split the costs of nitrile gloves with me. I want to purchase them online, but they come in a case of 10 boxes containing 100 gloves. I was told by friends that nitrile gloves will not let the formaldehyde seep in to your hands as much so your hands won't smell as much. I found them for about $50 for a case.

$5/box of 100 is cheaper than the bookstore.

I used nitrile gloves and they rock - no smell!

Hey you guys,

Congratulations on getting into medical school. I am just starting my fourth year. I am a COMPer as well. I am currently in Detroit Michigan at Botsford General Hospital. Just wanted to drop you a line and say welcome. You have picked an awesome profession. I saw a bunch of you briefly on campus after the white coat ceremony... yes I am in the area studying for that aweful thing called boards, and you all look excited and ready for the challenge. Just remember that you guys need to stick together and help each other out. Its hard as hell, but if you get your rhythm its one hell of a ride.

Anyhoo

Good Luck and Welcome

anatomy is kicking arse too. It's just not sticking. I know 2nd years suggest studying for 2hrs/day...but it feels like i'm gonna have to put in at least twice that much. 😱
Oh well, i guess i know what i'll be doing all weekend...ANATOMY!
I think i might try the LEAD office and see if they have any suggestions.

I'm probably going to roll to the party on friday...anybody else want to roll with?

my second year friends suggested that we should all get tutoring...its more group style discussion rather than one on one; so i think it helps reinforce what we need to know; i got it in biochem and anatomy, it doesn't hurt
