Anybody know where Sense is? I haven't seen him post on this thread nor anywhere else on SDN and hasn't responded to a PM ... I hope he's hangin in there! He's a great guy. 👍

sense! we love you man.

this is nuts...i just had the random thought that i hadn't seen SENSE in class since who knows when and when i log on to ask you guys, u already have a discussion goin bout it

sheesh

we're all on the same wavelength
what happened to that dude?

random sidenote--anybody else havin' issues with email notifications from this site? it never tells me when you guys reply like the good ol' days.

p.s. these immuno notes are dreadful

haven't even TOUCHED my path text yet!

😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱

tritto...(its not a word but you all know what i mean)

immunology sucks...i shouldn't complain so much, but i suppose that is my nature

is anyone else losing steam? i can't study or focus as much as i could earlier on in the year

i heard 20 people flunked OMM last year; i don't know any of the lecture material for that class; i guess i'll worry about that later

i hear ya, fowlersgap. i'm perpetually behind...

I was hoping Sense changed his name on SDN like he always does, but now that you guys say he hasn't showed up to class... I am bummed. I hope he is OK. He helped me A LOT in this application process.

good luck to all of you this year.

what difference have you guys seen since the program has been changed to boost up board scores?

I will be a first year next year, any classes that I should have a heads up on? i hear anatomy, biochem, and micro are killers. also, do these classes use the same books from year to year? if you could give me the titles of the texts you are using for these classes that would be appreciated. i have been out of school for some years and need to get a flavor before i dive right in.

and did any of you take the anatomy course over the summer? would you recommend this at all?

thanks.

ISAC program definitly!!!! trust me lot of us are regreting not doing it!!! it will make the first semester much easier.....good luck!

hotlikebutter,

congrats on your admission! as for preparation, i don't think you really need to prepare before coming here. i would recommend taking anatomy over the summer (ISAC) and getting it out of the way. since that will be over in july, you'll only have a month before school starts in august. have fun, go travel, do the things you've always wanted to do...

keep in mind though that you'll still have eight classes in the first semester=)

I doubt reading a micro text or doing biochem pathways during summer would help one bit during the year...

just don't see that helping

also you could stare at netter all summer but if you don't know what goes where and what does what and how each is doing its thing then it's useless...

I say go out, see the world and do all the things you'll never get to do as soon as the White Coat ceremoney is over

not bein pessimestic
just realistic

👍

Just to clarify, ISAC didn't get finished up until August. We got one week off before classes and most of those days were taken up by mandatory orientation.

As a current ISACer I would highly recommend applying for it. Your grades will thank you.

Don't let the prerequisites scare you. Half of the ISACers didn't taken Anatomy in college and many didn't have the grade/MCAT requirement. Dr. Kuehn just needs to believe you can make it through. It wasn't easy. Six of thirty didn't make the 80% cutoff to be facilitators. I believe only one of these had to remediate (<70%). Expect to study day and night for 8 weeks!

Obviously he didn't help you out too much if you chose Touro over COMP! HA

Um...sorry, I just had to.

to all the newbies: do ISAC for the love of god. you can either waste your time laying on a beach or working, then screaming at ISACers "shut up! it's not like you have ANATOMY or anything" anytime they mention being under stress, or you can still have a great summer and study a bit more. you meet people early, and spend a less time smelling like poo.

i didn't have the "minimum" grades or MCAT scores to get in, but Kuehn believes in desire more than stats so ask to get in and it shouldn't be a problem.

just watch out if you do it, everyone hates on the bluecoats. the class tends to forget ISACers only know how to facilitate in anatomy. i am ******ed in everything else, but i can point out a pes anserinus. or however you spell it. asking me about pharm and OMM is useless.

dudes, i need someone to slap me silly and force me to actually look at the immuno notes instead of watching The OC.

.

FYI...for those of you wondering...Kuehn is the anatomist that rocks back and forth while mumbling big words all as he's dissecting cadavers with his gold watch, tie, and cuff links scraping against the fat and blood of dead people
:wow:

The guy is all business when it comes to digging in and getting some.

As for Jack's comments, I wholly concur -- she is absolutely useless for anything other than anatomy! 🙂

In the past, it has always been a concern about ISAC'ers becoming a bit separated from the rest of the class because they start off early together and also because of the facilitator duties. It's a hard thing to try and fix impressions once they get started which is why being open and social to everyone else in the class is a good thing. (I know.. I went through ISAC too, but I didn't hang around with the ISAC folks as much when school started up.)

ISAC'ers think they're better than everyone else...wait til next semester starts!!! level playing field baby level playing field!

just kidding

no i'm not

yes i am

who cares

😛

Hey, why do we have to stick to labeling each other? The "students who took anatomy during the summer" 🙂 actually put effort into reviewing the material for each lab so we can actually do some real teaching. Well, most of us I think. For the most part, I think we're all getting a long just fine. Dark blue coats, light blue coats, white coats....I don't care. It's just so freakin' cold in that lab!

only if you let me copy your style...
Lost Student - "Yo ISAC'er, what is this structure?"
ISAC'er - "Why don't YOU tell me?"
Lost STudent - "Well If I knew I would tell you but I don't know hence the reason I'm askin you"
ISAC'er - "Well I'm not gonna hold your hand this whole course" <in other words...I have no frickin' clue...and I can't show everyone that I have no frickin' clue so just go look it up and stop bothering me>

then and only then
can I be your tutor

*GASP* I'm hurt. I put a lot of effort into facilitating labs and tutoring for anatomy. We're not all like that.

don't be- he was referring to me. you do a fantastic job of facilitating.

all this isac vs non-isac "rivalry" will be over soon; my second year friends were telling me that they don't even remember who was in isac; once second semester starts everyone's in the same boat

it does suck how isacers are labeled...isacers

good luck with immuno!

I got love for everbody -- you all know damn well that nobody hates the isacers for setting up our mock practicals! Bless their little hearts. 😍

JMC, FowlersGap & Hereatlast...hi guys! I miss you guys!
🙁 I hope all is well over there in southern Cali. NY isn't home but I'm really lovin' it. We have an amazing class (just like at COMP). Everyone's from all over the nation and we all get along really well. Everyone helps each other out and I'm slowly adjusting. We get 10 days off for thanksgiving so I'll be home then to get some sun. Although not too cold yet...maybe 40 degrees so far.

Hope you're all enjoying the curriculum and anatomy! You guys better keep in touch with me and let me know how life's treatin' you. Hope to hear from you soon. Good Luck with your next exam. We just got done with an insane one that lasted 5 hours but the nice thing is, it's basically pass/fail here. 😀

Take care and kick a** in med school!

so let me get this right, if you do isac, part of your grade is based on you being a facillitator to the non isacers? can you choose not to? also, you have to score better than 80 percent? so all this and you have to do in 6 or 7 weeks?

tell me why this benefits you again? is taking gross that bad with all the rest of your first semester courses?

well, for one, you can actually enjoy your thanksgiving break. comp has this brilliant idea of an anatomy exam the monday after thanksgiving=( oh, and they also decide to give you an exam the friday the week before (omm practical), monday (path), and tuesday (omm written), so you basically have to cram for anatomy over thanksgiving. turkey may not be so appetizing this year...

Just a small price to pay for the opportunity of a lifetime. 😀

The benefit is spreading out your first semester course load.

We get four pass/fail credits on our transcripts showing that we were facilitators. The grade is not based on how well we facilitate.

If you score 80% you are obligated to become a facilitator. If you don't facilitate you have to write a really long paper that is due during finals week. (I don't know anyone who has ever done this. It seems like a good way to piss the faculty off.)

If you score between 70-79% you may keep your passing grade or opt to retake the course. I know of 2 people who opted to repeat and 3 that did not. I think only 1 person scored below 70 and had to repeat. We had a pretty smart class this year and there was no curve.

dude you guys took me way too seriously...the facilitators are priceless...just thought jack deserved a lil' jab since i always let her get away with uppercuts here and there.

no beef
just luv

Did anyone else run out of time today? I lost half the point on my technique because I didn't finish.

It's all good if you passed.

It felt so good for 3 minutes to be finished with that test until...i realized we HAVE 7 MORE EXAMS to go!

:scared:

Still, it is nice to have a break coming up...even if you're going to spend the whole time studying!

Tis a rite of passage. You enjoy your vacation so much more when it's all over and all you have to prep on is Head and Neck!

no more study! i'm full! freaking OMM- i don't know what's worse- reading about scientific studies where they inject a rat's ankle joints with capsicin or trying to figure out how "passively translates to the left easily when extended" means FSRRR.

anything should feel good when your joints are full of hot pepper juice. and of course lymphatic treatment will help when you're a mongrel dog hanging from a sling with a huge sensor in your thoracic duct. i totally want to meet the people who think these experiments up.

man, i don't know how much i have left in the tank. this sucks=(

Congratulations to everyone for getting to this point. Take a deep breath, fill up on turkey and study hard this weekend. Only three weeks left and five (or four) more exams.

hey, come to class sometime man. i miss you!! freaking super gunner. 🙂

This "super-gunner" nearly failed the OMM practical because I ran out of time. I'm book smart but I wonder how I'll do out in the real world.

dude, i so wish i would have run out of time instead of simply being a *******. beuing quick is something you can learn. consistently erasing the correct answer to write in the incorrect answer is something that could keep me out of the real world.

what are you doing for thanksgiving? if you're in town, you and B should come over to ours.

Seriously! She is out of control...she just mows 'em down...like in the movies, never even has to reload. How does she do that?

As I type this form the 3rd floor of the library where I am sitting and watching the Video Atlas of Human Anatomy w/ Robert D. Acland, FRCS. This is for slackers who can't muster the ATP required to read on our own.

Is it okay to like being spoon fed? And God Bless Alex's little heart...I especially love being spoonfed biochem!

Thanks for the invite. We had plans for thanksgiving, I won't go into detail for fear of being lynched by less fortunate classmates.
