Sorry this is TOTALLY off subject from the recent posts but....

Congratulations to you all for getting accepted into Western! I know you are all excited and we're all excited to meet you. I'm writing because I am looking for someone to take over my lease(preferrably female) for an apt in Upland. My lease is up at the end of july. I plan on moving out at the end of May. Anyway if you're doing ISAC or SAP and are looking for a place to live, here is the info:

2br/2bath, you would be taking the master bedroom. your share of the rent is $500 not including utilities(electric, gas and phone-water and garbage are paid for); shared covered parking garage; gated community

you would be sharing it with a 2nd year DO student. she will be moving out around june or so. the security deposit is $200 which you should get back at the end of the lease. you are also welcome to continue the lease if that is what you want. it's about 12 minutes away from school.

Please email me with any questions if you are interested.

Thanks

M. Christina Tolentino

Am I the only one who can't legibly read our award letter?

Hey there,

You guys are no longer pre-meds - doesn't that make your heart do a double flip?!

Maybe it's time to move your forum to Osteopath?

(Congratulations - you'll love it in August!)

I guess the award letter finally came. Did anyone get scholarships or grants?

Say the word, and I'll move it.

 Maybe it should be moved. It doesn't really matter to me though. In the beginning I thought it should have been in the DO forum anyway.

We're here!!!
Wow how exciting!?
Either that or how pathetic that I'm excited!?

Very well, thanks. I just received an award letter with MSII next to my name....hard to believe I've got almost 1 year down!

See you guys soon.

Got my letter too...need some alt loans tho. 🙄
How you guy like this new layout for SDN! 😳

i don't like it. guess i'm just used to the old one. oh well. 🙁

I don't like it as much either. I was too used to the other format.

what's this karma b.s.
and what happened to my post count

i feel like i'm a newbie to SDN even though i visit the site a dozen times a day every damn day! 😱

well this new setup worked good for me, i finally was able to sign up with SDN!
hi everyone! i been following this thread since it was started and i am so happy to post here now! as you might be wondering, yes, I got accepted in december and i will be one of your fellow classmates soon!
so here is little quick info/update on me:
Got accepted in december
send in all the paperworks
still waiting for fin aid award letter
looking for housing close to school
am not planning on participating in ISAC
found a pharm student roommate :
all excited about august!!!!

I haven't posted in a long time but I was wondering if any of you were able to get to the ads in the April edition of the campus classifieds? 😕 For some reason I can't find the link.

THERE IS A LINK ON THE #550 REPLY, PAGE 28. i AM GIVING YOU DIRECTIONS BECAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW TO PUT THE LINK IN THIS REPLY! I HOPE THIS HELPS!

We just received an email through the western email of a girl looking for a roommate. You'd be living with two other DO students of different years but get your own room for $500 a month plus utilities. Sounds like a good deal if you're a girl.

It looks like I'll be going to ISAC this summer. I wanted to find out who else was going and if they anyone was interested in rooming over the summer.

i'm going baby. i just PM'd you. i'm still unsure of my housing situation though. i'll either move down there or stay in long beach.

hey guys,

congrats to everyone!
just wanted to see if anyone's interested in hooking up somewhere in norcal before aug? 😀 i'm in sf but i'm down to meet wherever...

hey donvicious,

i was tempted to do ISAC and it was a really hard decision but i decided not to and to just hang out for the summer and spend more time w/ my friends and family. i talked to a MSIV and she advised me to enjoy my summer. have fun tho! stick to dr jack...you'll learn a lot! 😉

Hey Ris

Did you get my message? I'm down to meet in norcal. I'm in this area a lot so it would be fun to do something in your neck of the woods.

Hi all future COMPers!
If you guys/gals have discussed this already in another thread, I'm sorry for repeating this question. But knowing that you all are the best informed about COMP, your input would really help me decide for/against COMP for this fall.
My ques, are there clinical rotation sites that are affiliated with any residency programs? Are these harder to get placed at?
Thanks in advance!
Good luck to y'll! 👍

Yes there are. You can rotate at Arrowhead and Riverside. They have their own residencies for a variety of things including surgery, neurosurgery, and anesthesiology.

You can rotate at Loma Linda Medical Center, one of the UCLA hospitals, UCI Medical center, USC medical center and so forth. Obviously, these all have their own residency programs. Basically, if you can arrange it, you can rotate at any hospital throught socal. As far as getting placed at, I don't think it's that difficult to get a rotation at anyone of these hospitals.

COMP is pretty established in socal which is why they offer a lot of places to rotate at here. I would also say a good strength of their 3rd and 4th years is that you don't have to get up and move all over the state or out of state to do your rotations. You can basically stay in the southern part of CA for everything. This is untrue for many of the other DO schools. Good luck in your decision.

Hey is anyone doing the SMP thing in the summer? Sounds interesting but I don't think it counts as credit for school. Does anyone think it's worth it?

I keep hearin it's a waste of time from current compers.

all they do is teach u mneumonics which u can get from your in session tutors. i think i'd rather travel! 👍

if you're going to ruin your summer, get credit for it. dohza is right on- you should travel a bit, adapt.

I am planning on traveling too! hopefully that way i can freshen up for school and be ready to start in August.
Where are you people planning on traveling to?!
I am thinking about Hawaii, Cancun and/or Newzeland! But i have to see which one fits into my budget! 😉

i'm going to vegas this weekend, and then again in may. that's about it since i'm doing ISAC.

I'm probably not going to do the SMP thing then. I would like to travel but I probably won't.

I am starting to worry about my financial aid award letter now. I still havent received it. I know that I applied late, end of feb, so i dont know if that is the reason why I still dont have my letter, or there is something wrong. Do you think i should call financial aid office or should i wait another week! Did you guys apply early? 😕

does anyone have any clue what forms we're suppose to fill out...there's this online interview thing, some SDS, a MDN or something...anymore? And this financial aid award letter...is it not the letter we got in our web mail?

😡

i got the fin aid letter too via web mail. after that i did the SDS. so i think you need to complete that online class thingy (SDS) then after the fin aid office receives the confirmation that you passed the quiz, they put some online forms on your banweb account. i just checked banweb and i have new forms to fill out. after you accept your fin aid award on banweb, you can sign up for a MPN with Western (if you want them to be your lender) i haven't gotten past looking at the new fin aid forms yet...but i'll post if i get more info.

for housing, we'll be receiving a roommate request form by the end of this week or early next week. once we complete it and send it back in, they'll (student affairs) give us a list of people we can contact-that'll happen after grad, 5/14 or so. anyone looking for a roommie? send me a pm... 😛

hope that helps!

My parents told me that I just received the roommate packet in the mail today. I guess you just fill out some forms.

You have to turn in the SDS to the financial aid office by mail, and do the entrance loan counseling test online. These are both due by June 1. You also have to fill out the MPN for the loans. Does anyone know when this is due?

where are the MPN form(s)?

There's a link on banweb under financial aid forms that will take you to a web site to fill out your MPN.

Got my housing stuff too. I'll looking to rent a house in the rollin hieghts/walnut/west covina area....by the 57/10/60 freeways. It's about 10 min drive to school. Looking for a 3-4 bedroom house. I might need 1-2 more people for the house...cost is about 500+ult. I'm looking to get under 500 tho. I won't be looking till end of may, will move in july. PM me if you're interested. Or for those who need help looking for a place, I'll be happy to share what I find.

Did you guys get your fin award lettler through your email account or it was on the banweb!?

Hey everyone,

I've been reading this thread for quite some time, and I finally got my lazy butt to actually register.

But yea, I'll be entering COMP this coming year and I look forward to meeting new people to learn and work with. 😀

A little about me:

Grew up in So Cal (Pasadena area) and live in San Gabriel now.

Graduated from UC Berkeley (2002)

Currently work as a Health Care Analyst for Kaiser Permanente

Will be doing that ISAC thingy (even though now I'm having second thoughts about it.)

And I like to do random things like tennis, dance (clubbing woohoo!), kickboxing, blackjack (bad bad bad), and learning Texas Hold'em.

Anyone nervous about starting medical school? shoot...i wonder if I can handle a classroom setting anymore. 😕

and learning Texas Hold'em.

hey seputro welcome! I will also, most likely be going to COMP next year, and your post regarding Hold'em caught my attention....I have a weekly game going and well, I'm no pro or anything but I just love the pychology behind the game. Have you seen the World Poker Tour? Damn those guys are amazing.....I mostly play at home for quarter games, max $1 bets, but I've gone to a couple of the casinos -Commerce, Hawaiian Gardens, the Bicycle Club (isn't that close where you live?) and man, it gets crazy over there....mostly play no limit ($100 buy in...no $25000 or anything...I'm not a pro yet hehehehe), because that's as close to the real thing as it gets anyways, hope the learning is going well and maybe we can set up a weekly game at COMP (well when we have some time off from the studying 😉 ) good luck

anybody else a hold'em fanatic? 😀

Hi all!
I just found out that I am accepted at COMP for fall this year. Just wanted to say hi!!!!
I'm so excited!

Congrats Insight. So are you going to COMP for sure or are you waiting for other schools.

I wouldn't mind playing poker with you guys during free time. I'm not sure what holdem is though.

slick how can you not know what hold'em is?? It's the mecca of poker, THE POKER GAME....the world championship of poker is decided via Texas Hold'em poker. It's very easy to learn and the same concept is used, meaning, two pair beats one, triple beats two pair, etc, etc. You probably know how to play the typical poker game, 5 card stud, everybody gets 5 cards, exchange a max of 4 and then show your winning hand....it's cool...but trust me hold'em is very easy to learn. Well as you can see I'm all hardcore about that game....it's just fun, specially with the bluffing and the different ways you can play the psychology behind the game.....Well I will be headed to COMP this fall so hope to see you guys there...I'll be the good looking latino there 😉 hahahaha J/K take care you all.
