So I was originally planning on taking a gap year because I thought I wouldn't be competitive enough this year, but should I just apply anyway? If I get rejected I can always just apply again next year right, with a higher gpa and more clinical experiences. Are there any downsides I'm missing?

I was in the same shoes as you but I decided to take a gap year. I didn't want to spend a lot of money applying to schools (you would have to apply to many places with ok stats) so I thought it was best to just wait. The pros of waiting is that you can build up your GPA, increase ECs, take a year to work and pay off any debt.

OP, going to need to share more info if you want any legit help from the experienced on here

You answer your own question in the title.

Why be a re-applicant? Why waste the money? What is your GPA? MCAT? ECs? What do you mean you are not ready? Poor planning and bad time management skills are not the qualities of a future physician.

Given the amount of info you've given us, I think it would be a good idea to pull a triple Lindy, travel to Azeroth and shadow the healers there, and then go to Home Depot (if you have enough time).
