My school just implemented a pre-health office/composite letters last school year (they're so behind!). I'm really hesitant about going this route because I've heard they're still working out a lot of kinks and last year a lot of pre-dents had their letters sent out REALLY late. Would it be okay to just do 3 individual LORS or would this seem suspicious?

My school has a committee letter, they don't mail out until September!! When I found out, I had to take out my letters and have them sent out individually. IMO, early is more important than a committee letter.

i agree that sending something in earlier probably outweighs the benefits of a composite letter. but if there are not many people applying to dental school in your class, perhaps you could speak to someone in the prehealth office and explain that timing is important? Some dental schools (I think either Tufts or BU, for example) say they would like to see a committee or composite letter if your school sends it out. a committee letter is like the cliff notes version of your recommendations, and i'd bet busy admins get more out of scanning one of those than trying to go through individual recs. Either way, I think as long as you have strong recs, you'll be in good shape

I believe most pre-health committees do understand the importance of applying early and yet, for some reason, are always behind. Throughout the three years in undergrad, they always emphasized the importance of applying early. And yet, when it comes time to apply, they'll submit your LOR sometime in August and think it's all fine.

I decided to not go with the committee letter b/c they would mail it out early August and went the individual letters. Everything worked out fine and no one mentioned anything at my interviews.
