Do you guys think that switching to computer based test format is going to make it harder to study on your own? Unless we get some software, we won't be able to practice the format, let alone in a room with 30 other kids clicking away. It almost puts a lock on having to take the courses if you want to practice.

Any thoughts?

www.e-mcat.com has some online practice tests. They are working on reformatting them though to fit the new length.

Also, at the CBT center you get headphones to block out the clicking.

about the headphones, i had two available at my workstation...don't choose the music headphones (mickey mouse like, bulky, for listening to music). after finding they didn't block out noise very well, i used a hideous pair of orange ones, the ones people use while doing noisy yardwork? yeah, those work magic; your ears are in a vacuum. But yeah, e-mcat is a good resource for getting a feel--i think it helped me to prep well..

I had two at my place, and one looked like it wasn't meant to be noise cancelling. I used the ones that looked like they were, but they didn't help a whole lot against the old clacky keyboards and the sighing ***** who pounded on the keyboard for the full length of whatever exam he took (wasn't MCAT). It also didn't help against said *****'s beeping from the timer he kept messing with.

Now, I would move if that would happen to me. I would strangle someone like that. a psychologist told me that you are allowed to move....although I don't know how this works in a computer testing center. :meanie:

I would have taken his timer, toss it on the floor, and stepped on it. :meanie: That was just rude.

for those of you who have taken the CBT, are there individual testing units, like cubicals? are you separated from the next guy by walls?

I took my GRE as a CBT in one of these joyful testing centers. The stuff I didn't know it didn't help that the environment was different from my prep.

However, if you know the material, you know it and teh CBT environment isn't going to make much difference. Go in there like you own the MCAT. After all the hours we've put in, you should own it!!
