I was interested in taking a couple of intro computer science classes and I did well on them. Would these count for BPCM gpa? Also, does it look bad if I took these classes in my junior year/first semester senior year?

In the crazy world of applications, engineering and computer science courses are not counted as a science. My CS courses were not counted.

damn, now my sGPA is a 3.49, with my cGPA being a 3.64. That science GPA is not worth applying with (non URM). Do you think I should do a post-bacc for a year and take science courses to bring it up to a 3.6 sGPA?

Depending on your MCAT the GPA isn't that bad. If you want to bring it up then take upper level science courses and bring it up to 3.6

we have no idea of how the rest of your application is, grade trends, MCAT score, ECs, etc. Saying it is not possible to apply with effectively a 3.5 sGPA is far too absolute without looking at the complete picture

For all we know he has a 525 and cured cancer. Definitely need a post bac now....

OP give us a more complete rundown of your app and then we can help with what you might need to do.

you're all absolutely right, sorry. I know this isn't a "what are my chances" thread, but here goes I guess.

I had a 3.4ish until my junior year when I got a 3.8 and then last semester (senior fall semester) I got a 4.0 - upward trend I guess.

My overall is a 3.6 right now and if I do well this semester I will have a 3.64 overall. 1 publication (2nd author) in neurosurgery journal. 200-300 shadowing hours, 700 hours volunteer (veterans hospital, tutor inner-city youth in St. Louis, campus kitchen)

Very strong LORs

MCAT: 503 - August 2015. 127/123/126/127
Retaking May 2016

So stupid CS isn't a science but math does count.

With your MCAT score and cGPA and sGPA, good DO applicant right now. Also, DO schools have a much, much broader definition of what a science class is. I believe CS classes do count towards your sGPA for DO schools.

Yea an MD app would probably be a waste anyway, but I could see you having success at DO schools. Limiting factor will be MCAT more than GPA

You will need to kill your MCAT retake to be able to apply MD, like 515+ I say. If not you are a good DO applicant and that is about it.

I really appreciate the responses. Does doing a post-bacc look bad? If I do one year post-bacc I can get a 3.7 cGpa and 3.6sGPA. I would also have more time to study for my MCAT? Thoughts?
