Information about the computerized version of the OAT is now available online in this word document: https://www.ada.org/oat/OAT_Guide.doc

Wow....I don't know how you guys feel about this but this is very good news to me, a God sent. One of the best Christmas presents I have gotten in awhile.

The way I read this and understood it, it sounds like the test will be offered monthly, starting with January 15 and February 5th, the results will still be based on a curve, and will be received shortly after the test. Did I misunderstand something?

The reason this is good news, is because I did poorly in October, and now I'm getting a second chance. If the test was written, that means results wouldn't be released until mid March, this way hopefully I'll be interviewed between now and February, and still have a decent chance of getting into optometry school next year.

I'm really happy about this. Am I missing something? Any negatives?

Hey PLPrincess,

I understood pretty much the same thing except that you get your results right away but the optometry schools recieve them 3 weeks later so they can verify them. I think thats great news too! The wait after you take the test is the biggest frustration so that takes that away. I did notice the computerized OAT is a little more expensive so that is a little disadvantage but the advantages definitely outweigh it. 😀

There are negative being that it is on computer. It is very hard to navigate those things especially on reading comp. I am also under the impression that you have to answer every question before moving on to the next. Those are the negatives.

You either have to answer the question or flag it for review when going through the test. Still, I think that this would make the test considerably more diffucult since it would not so easy to review your answers or even look back at the reading passages. Plus, I think it would be be percetpually very weird to do a test like this on a monitor instead of paper lying flat on a table.

So happy that I won't be one of the guinea pigs for this...
