hello folks,

Prior to posting this I did scour reddit and SDN for recent and thorough posts in regards to COMBANK VS COMQUEST but none of the references seem cut and dry. Since time is always on the shortside I am wondering in order to get used to the shabby wordy and question types that are on comlex which of these two banks would be best. Plan on just pounding through one of in the couple weeks leading up to the exam.
Of course I am using the basics for studying for USMLE but as with everything else in the DO world, finding the best comlex q bank seems less cut and dry and more smoke and mirrors. Our school gives us COMBANK, which seems OK at best but was wondering what those who have experienced comquest in comparison to combank think.
To add to my question, from whoever has taken the exam, where the questions worded most like combank, comquest or the comsaes? (we took comsae E in jaunuary which i got an 800 something on but taking that as a grain of salt since most the questions seemed to be quick one liners and not very clinical in nature) in comparison to the maybe somewhat more elaborate wording found in Combank.

Any help much appreciated, and again just planning on using these to get used to the wording and maybe tackle the heavier weight of micro, anatomy, OMMlol found on COMLEX so I can spend more time on USMLE.

I used both for step 1 and step 2. I thought comquest was significantly better. More indicative of the actual test and better for learning. I remember getting through all the questions for COMBANK on step 2 and then buying comquest and thinking multiple times “thank god I got this as there were zero questions on this in COMBANK.” Plus comquest has much better explanations. COMBANK has some decent explanations but they also had a couple “It happens like this because it does.” Finally, COMBANK has all sorts of typos, misspellings, and general “what the hell are you even trying” moments. It just seemed so unprofessional.

I just used comquest for step 3 as I wasn’t going to waste my money.

Yeah I’ve noticed a few typos and stuff that doesn’t really make sense answer explainations and contradictory questions. Not common but present. Wasn’t quite sure if they were trying to represent the real thing with ambiguity or just got sloppy on writing stuff lol

I'm not sure why people say this, UWorld is plenty for Comlex. You don't need to do either Combank/Comquest "to get feel for the questions". If you're doing well in UWorld you'll do well with Comlex.

I think others and my fear comes from that combank asks more nitpicky anatomy questions than Uworld and harps more on anatomy/msk (excluding the addition of OMM). Of course for the real thing i dont know, have not taken it. But the school feeds us that combank is most like the real thing but that could just be lies and heresy coming from admin since they prob get combank on the cheap for us. Currently sitting at 86%raw on Uworld after a few hundred questions on random and a little higher on COMBANK but anatomy/omm always terrifies me. its so annoying lol
