After doing fine on the first biochem exam, I panicked and choked on the second one. I am talking about a really, really bad grade. The truth is, we had so many back to back exams throughout a six-week period, I somehow got sucked into a pattern of cramming for whatever was coming next. I'm a hard worker, I study a lot, but I'm not a good crammer. I ended up with about a week to study, but didn't know it well enough for cold recall, freaked out, and the rest is history. I definitely have learned a thing or two about juggling/time management here.
Mathematically speaking, it is well within the realm of possibility for me to pass with greater than or equal to 70 overall. (I would have to get high 70's on the next two exams, which I exceeded on the first, and I KNOW I can do better.) However, the grading policy is very nebulous, and I am concerned that I'm at risk for a "conditional" regardless of what else happens.
At my school, if you get a "conditional," you remediate for the test(s) you did poorly on, then retake them in the summer. Your transcript then shows a "conditional/pass" indicating that you remediated.
I'm really worried, because I want to do general surgery. How badly will this hurt me if it happens? This would basically be seen as though I FAILED the class, right?! I'm doing fine in everything else, and have been doing fairly well thus far. So is this one exam going to spell curtains for my career?
I'm going to talk to the professor today.
EDIT: obviously, I meant gen SURG. Not able to edit the thread title. Although I might end up at the beach being the friendly doctor for kindergarten surf camp at this point. Har dee had har.
