I have heard and read that Clinical Psychologists can write prescriptions up for their patients? If they take courses in medicine ,like med school ? is this true? At the sametime I hear Psychologists aren't allowed to do such . " If" Clinical psychologists are allowed to , what degrees or steps is needed to do so?

Steph :luck:

Generally, behavior therapy is a better option than prescribing drugs...

I don't know that I agree with that. Depends on the client and the presentation.

Very few psychologists can prescribe, and they can only do so in a few states, though they are fighting for more. It typically requires 2 years of extra training or thereabouts? Whether or not they will (or even should) win is a separate issue - one that even being on the psychology side I have mixed feelings on. The states I know allow it already are Louisiana and NM, though I think there might be 1-2 more.
