I'm going to be a senior in the 2013-2014 school year and I still haven't been able to apply to pharmacy schools. I chose to do pharmacy a little later on in college and I'm not majoring in a science, so it's taking me a little longer than usual.

I would like to be able to start pharmacy as soon as I graduate, but I don't think that can happen and it's worrying me. This coming fall and spring I will be taking a bunch of science prerequisites leaving me with a couple classes left for my major before I can graduate. This means I'd probably have to take an extra semester in the fall of 2014 so I can get my degree. Does this mean I wouldn't be able to start pharmacy school until 2015?

I am also very confused about the application process in general. Does everyone just start applying once pharmcas opens? I want to apply as early as possible as soon as I get myself to be a good candidate, but does the problem with my degree mean I should wait until 2015 to apply? Or is there another way around this? I am also taking the PCAT this July. One option I have is to max out my 2013-2014 schedule with all the classes I need, but I still want to make sure I get good grades to raise my science GPA.

Any help is appreciated. This is worrying me. :scared:

If you are going to take an extra semester to get your degree on fall of 2014, then yes the soonest you would be starting pharmacy school is on fall of 2015. Unless you have a personal reason, I would just take my time and apply for matriculation year 2015. You have more time and flexibility to finish your science classes(with high GPA), study for the PCAT, and prepare for the application process.

Do you think taking the PCAT this year is too early if I'm applying for 2015?

What science courses(Chem,Ochem,Bio,A&P,etc) have you completed already?

I've already taken gen chem 1 and 2, orgo 1 and 2, anatomy and physiology, and bio 1.

Still kind of confused: If I want to start in 2015, then would I still apply during the 2014-2015 application cycle?

Yes, this is correct.
