so,i'm a 3rd year student, studying in India...my subjects at present are ophthalmology,ear-nose-throat and preventive and social medicine.i'm an average student.honestly,i cant study all year round,so max effort is put right before my exams,i prefer the practical aspect of medicine more than theory..

as i'll be in final year, next year.which has many and quite lengthy subjects like surgery, paediatrics, medicine, gynae etc. students start studying those before hand. at least some bit of them, also talking to my seniors, final year has a lot of the 1st and 2Nd year subjects co-related.. like anatomy, physio, pharma, path...

frankly,i feel the need to revise these subjects because i feel like I've forgotten what i'd studied.but the classes and exams keep me occupied.. i cant find a way to keep in touch with the earlier subject along with the present ones..

i'd really appreciate if some one could guide me through this, how to keep in touch with the previous subjects and also glancing at the final year ones..i know the whole of medicine in inter-related,but as i mentioned im not the best of students, i need help with it...

kindly suggest
thanks 🙂

Well, it's not like you'll have to learn anatomy, physio and pathology all over again. You should be able to remember the basic stuff when you come across it in a surgery or an internal medicine book. Nevertheless, if you can't remember it, then you have no other option but to get out that rusty pre-clinical book that's been lying on your shelf for 2-3 years and refer to it. There's no easy way out. Or if you sort of remember the stuff, then you could just use wikipedia or some other resource online to brush up on what you forgot.

For now, make sure that as you're reading all the stuff, try to correlate that topic with what you read in the pre-clinical years (anatomy, physiology, pathology etc.) This might be a little time consuming. but it's certainly an effective method in consolidating the stuff into your brain.

hey thanks so much.thats is what i do from time to time..its just that i was wondering if i shud pick up those books again, cuz in day to day studyin i can open then when required, but in exams and viva-voce it jus comes up on the spot..i dunno,is it jus me or do other med students go through such dilemmas as well!! neways thanks again 🙂

Get a shortbook and revise from there, it has all the important things you need to know and all the key points.

hey thanx..could u suggest me some shortbooks???

Here's the one i'm reading, they're short enough, like the anatomy one summarizes all of gross anatomy into about 450 pages, but i've seen shorter ones like 200 pages too lol. I don't know about india though, there should be some indian doctors that published their notes or something try to find those they are way short and to the point.

If you can't find these in store just download them as ebooks from a torrent. They're called BRS, Board Review Series, there ones for other subjects too like pharma/patho. Some people here read the Kaplan series to as well but i didn't try those. I read Genetics from there just a day before my exam and passed it thank God.

i hope that helps 🙂
