Hello! I'm a little confused on protein targeting. This is what I'm understanding...
Proteins that don't have a signal sequence, their target is the cytosol (?)
Proteins that have a signal sequence, they go to the ER for further modification and they will either be destined to work within a membrane (like the plasma membrane) or be secreted from the cell

Is this correct?

So think it through:

Your ribosomes are floating in the cytosol. If they create proteins without any destination, then yes, they are made to simply be there in the cytosol.

But, if there's a signal sequence, the SRP will bind this sequence, arrest the protein, and complex it with the secretory pathway (the ER, vesicles, etc.). So yes. You are correct!
