hello,

i just got on the alternate list to two schools. and thats it.

now when i reapply this june (early this time).. I will have a year AFTER i apply (aug 05-aug 06) where I will be doing something hopefully. so when they see that I am a reapplicant i heard they asked so what did you do since you last applied. To be honest i was still going to interviews so i didn't do much and I will be doing everything from august 05 to next august but I do not know yet.. but the interview will come in aug, sept, nov. so how will my file look different when i apply if i didn't even get a chacne to even do anything before i applied.. is ANYONE understanding what i am saying? this does not make any sense to me how can one re apply and have a different looking file? or express what they are going to dofor a year off if they haven't even started or figured it out...

What have you done since your last application? Community service, volunteering, leadership?

What do you think contributed to your lack of an acceptance? A late application, little or no clinical experience, low MCAT, low GPA, poor interviews?

Your question seems to be what can I change between now (April) and when I reapply (August). This question depends on what the weak areas of your application are. Work on your weaknesses.

I kind of had a similar question to this....i'm going to be reapplying and i know that i am going to be asked what have you done since your last application and i dont really know what i will be saying to the interviewer/application. Since last year, I've finished up school, got into a couple of honors societys, finished up school-related volunteering, and now i am volunteering at the hospital. I'm assuming this is what they are looking for, but perhaps i'm swinging and not hitting anything.

Awesome, i just wanted to make sure. I havent done a whole lot more than years past, but have just kept on the same pace with the years past. this will definitely work to my advantage.

Yes, I know what you mean. I found out in May last year that I didn't get in, then I had less than a month to try and put some new stuff on my app. I hadn't been doing much besides working, a little volunteering and going to interviews. Basically, you can always mention your plans for the coming year in your PS and then talk about what you have done in next years interviews. This is what I did. Also, I was able to get one new experience to add in my app. It worked for me...

A girl I met on an interview had applied last year and got all rejections. She reapplied this year EARLY to the same schools and had four interviews lined up by December. Also, just because you submit the application in June doesn't mean you can't have meaningful experiences after. Keep doing stuff that way you have something to talk about at your interviews or in a letter of interest/intent later in the year. Many schools like you to keep them posted with new info about yourself. Good Luck!

sbp26, i totally understand how you feel. i actually posted a similar question in this forum a couple of weeks ago. i'm waitlisted at one school and waiting to hear back from another, so im getting worried and thinking about reapplying too.

im looking into jobs and such (i finished school earlier this year) but I don't feel right applying to anything (jobs, i mean) because I'm not 100% sure I'm not getting in this year and would feel horrible if I commit to the job and then in 3 months have to quit. Plus, even if i do apply for a job, then I will ethically have to tell them about my applying to med. school and the chance of my leaving in 3 months...and this of course would hinder my chances.

So, i'm just sticking to volunteering right now. But, I just feel like it's not enough, and that my application wont be effectively improved by the time June comes around for the first screen. I'm just glad that most schools don't do that first screen with primaries.

gluck!
