Hi everyone, I had a question about pre req courses that i hope someone has gone through. The community college i want to do my pre req courses has multiple kinds of science courses (physics, chemistry, etc.). For example, i found a course that is called Intro to Chemistry. This is not the same as General Chemistry. Here is the description for

Intro to Chemistry:

The first of a two-semester course sequence designed for nursing majors, allied health, and other paramedical students. This course may be used as a preparatory course for CHEM 1110. This course is NOT intended for science, engineering, or engineering technology majors. The course covers basic concepts of inorganic chemistry with focus on health sciences. The impact of chemistry on society is emphasized along with writing skills. Prerequisite: Demonstrated proficiency in elementary algebra confirmed by placement test scores or completion of appropriate college math scores. Prerequisites: DSPW 0800, DSPR 0800, DSPM 0800.

4.000 Credit hours
3.000 Lecture hours
3.000 Lab hours

This is the description for General Chemistry I.

This is the first course in a two-semester sequence for science majors, pre-professional students, and pre-engineering students. The course covers fundamental concepts including measurements, language and stoichiometry, atomic and molecular structure, ionic and covalent bonding, states of matter, the gas laws, solutions, and thermochemistry. This course meets prerequisites for further study in chemistry in baccalaureate programs. Prerequisite: Demonstrated mastery of high school chemistry. Pre-requisite: DSPW 0800, DSPR 0800, DSPM 0850,

I am confused as to which course is better to apply to PT school. I have called some of the schools I wish to apply to and they felt that it might be okay to take these courses, but I wanted to see if anyone else had gone through this problem. I just don't want to take the wrong course. Which courses did you guys take to complete pre reqs?

You need to take a year of General Chemistry, intro chem classes won't count. Usually physics classes can vary, and either calc. or trig based are accepted, but the chemistry requirement is pretty standard.

take General Chem 1 because most PT schools require Chem 2 and in order to take Chem 2, you need chem 1 (at least at my school). most schools also require the science pre reqs that are for major students which is in this case Gen Chem 1

sorry to steal your thread, but i also have a pre-req question

most of the schools that i want to apply to need a 4 credit Anatomy & Physiology course(3 credit lecture, 1 credit lab i'm assuming). i've taken anatomy and physiology in my school but its only 3 credits here, 0 credits for lab. it is equivalent to the other Anatomy and physiology courses in other schools but i'm not sure if it will be enough for applying to PT school. anyone have any insight?

Ive noticed a lot of school say the course won't count unless there is a lab. You should go the school's website and look on the pre req page. Usually they will specify, however, you can call them to make sure. I just know that a lot of schools I am looking at say that a lab MUST be included.

Interesting that your school counts the lab as zero credit. First assuming the lab shows up on your transcript there are quite a few schools who only care about the class being both lecture and lab and are not concerned about the number of credits. Second you have some options for the schools that require 8 credits of A&P. A) You can take an upper division anatomy course thus taking three anatomy courses and being over eight credits. B)Some schools allow a year of Biology plus one Anatomy course as an alternative pre-req course sequence. However, this differs with each individual school. Last your best course of action is to check each school's website (or PTCAS) and contact the different admissions coordinators at the schools personally and ask them directly if and how they would receive those courses. When in doubt go to the source. Hope that helps.
