Contact after interviews questions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Contact them now.... Programs generally have an idea who they like. Contacting programs and expressing that you want to be at said program is VERY helpful.

I say if faculty like you and you call to show interest I think it may "up" your ranking.

good advice. if you are languishing somewhere in the middle after your interview, expressing interest may help your cause at some places...

What's the best way to express interest, without sounding like an *****-kisser or sounding insincere? Especially if you're expressing interest to a place from which you've gotten no post-interview feedback?

This is my third year of interviews- I don't know what it is about this year but no one is sending thank-yous- I think it is common courtesy- I think you should send one at least to the program director- Sending emails to the residents you talked to and liked is also a nice touch I think- It is not hard to tell genuine letters from fake and we can usually tell when someone is not that interested-
This brings me to another topic- I feel like over the last 3 years the candidates have become harder to talk to during interview day and more disinterested- It could reflect our candidates but does anyone else feel this way- Maybe it is just me-

i've been told we've been getting stronger and stronger candidates year after year. and our first year class this year is AMAZING!

i actually was asked on an interview this year why i thought that the general strength of pathology candidates had been improving over the past few years, so i think it's a trend that has not gone unnoticed.

as far as post-interview contact, i got a few generic thanks for interviewing emails from PDs, and have gotten 2 personal emails from faculty members at the same program which makes me feel like i'm on their radar. a few residents have followed up with me post-interview as well. i've told the program i'm most interested in that i'm planning on ranking them first and i got a polite but noncommittal response. bottom line, it's still a crapshoot.
