I'm in talks with a group for a job. They say they want and need another physician. They made this argument to their chair who is going through contract negotiations with the local county hospital. They said they would let me know once negotiations are done but they were hopeful the position would be approved and that the job is mine if approved.

Does anyone have any experience with the types of negotiations? I'm not necessarily in a rush since I don't need to start until the fall. But, does anyone have experience with these types of negotiations? I assumed the 2026 budget would be set by January 2026, but they said it's typical to not hear back until February or March. Anybody have some advice here? I know, I probably just need to be patient but I do really want this job for myself and for my family, etc.

Thanks for the help.

also, I would appreciate anyone sharing info on general salary (not total comp) for a 7 on / 7 off neuro-hospitalist and if you are academic vs community-based.

If its a desirable job in a desirable location, not much room for negotiation but you should at least try to negotiate salary or rvus or vacation time or admin time or other protected time, or benefits etc.
Typical starting salaries for 7/7 are somewhere between 250-400 (+/-50k) depending on academics vs community and location and volume. There are various databases you can checkout for more specifics
