i was wondering for the endocrinologists out there if one knew about side effects associated with synthyroid, possible contraindications? if one is mildly (primary)hypothyroid, is the administering of synthyroid a life long treatment?
thanks so much.

I'm not an endocrinologist, but Synthroid (levothyroxine) is very safe if used properly. It's identical to the T4 produced by the human thyroid gland. The primary side effects relate to hypermetabolism (eg hyperthyroidism) if too much is given... tachycardia, hypertension, sweating, diarrhea, weight loss, nervousness, fever, etc. That being said, take any medical advice off this forum as a grain of salt... ask your doctor!
