I've heard that's because a lot of engineers don't do anything to make themselves worth a higher salary. They're comfortable with their well above average salaries and reasonable lifestyle.I'm sorry but you don't know what you're talking about. As an engineer, I can safely say that you cap out around $95k. It is not kosher for a firm to have engineers paid 6 figures. Yes, starting salaries are good, but they don't go anywhere. You should be making $80k after 10 years in the biz for sure. But keep in mind that raises hardly keep up with inflation and COL.
The only engineers who do better than this are the ones who either (1) consult or (2) get in with a successful start-up.
I hate to just use personal anecdotes, but a close friend did a combined business administration/software engineering bachelors degree, got recruited out of college for the standard 55-60K, but her employer also agreed to pay for her part time MBA. ~5 years later she's steadily made her way up the ladder into 100K+ land with more room to go. But then again, she's in more of a management position now than an actual engineering one.
