Has anyone else thought about applying to the Weill branch that just opened up in Qatar? Any and all feedback would be good, like the percent getting residencies back in the states, anything like that

Yes, when i was a sophmore, now i'm a senior. But i dont think the program there is nearly as good as the one here.

Is the process a rolling admission? Do they have any unique criteria...like ability to speak arabic?

Such stats don't yet exist as the first class is currently just starting their second year.

It's interesting though because the cornell-qatar site says that graduates will be conferred the same MD degree as those who graduate from Weill in NYC, yet I read on another thread that Qatar-grads will be considered FMGs for residency.

Anyone know the real deal. I'm thinking of applying to the pre-med program this fall.

Thanks

Ockham

Don't know the answer to this for sure, but as of now the school is not yet accredited in the states. I'm sure it will be in time, but schools can not be accredited until they have been functioning for some amount of time (the exact time or requirements I am not sure of).

From the Cornell-Qatar website (FAQs):

"Q – As a graduate of WCMC-Q, how may I obtain a license to practice medicine in the United States?
A – Students and graduates of the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar will be eligible to undergo the United States Medical Licensing Examination ( USMLE ) under the rules established by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates ( ECFMG ). The USMLE is the sole examination system for United States medical students and graduates as well as for international medical graduates seeking medical licensure in the United States. "

I think that's your answer...

That's what I thought, and that is VERY misleading when you read just about all of the WMC-Q press releases, articles and websites.

Also, any word on where the clinical years are done??

At hospitals and clinics out there. They write about it on their website and FAQ. Check it out.
