Hello, I was wondering if I could get some advice. I am a Canadian Student with a GPA around 3.7 with a slightly higher science GPA. I also volunteer at a local hospital in the ER and I volunteer at the local blood bank. Im in my 3rd year of biochemistry. I plan to do a thesis project in 4th year to gain some research experience. I plan to write my MCAT this summer. How would you rate my chances? Also, what should I do to improve my chances. Thanks in advance and I appreciate any comments.

your GPA is really good. Have you shadowed any docs? Thats something you would want to do. You might also want to do some leadership stuff. Ive lead my football team's Relay for Life team, ya know something like that. But I think the major thing you want to do is really focus on the MCAT. Im also taking it this summer and Im pretty much treating studying for it like a class. Ive set aside 3 3-hours blocks of time each week to study.

Are you applying to Canadian or American schools?

Im planning on applying to both. Im hoping to get accepted in Canada because it would be cheaper, but an acceptance anywhere is the primary goal. I live in a smaller city so Im having a hard time shadowing a doctor because it is not that common around here and I dont really know any doctors personally to ask them. Thanks for you advice guys

Check with your local hospital for shadowing opportunites. I live in California and a lot of hospitals even have programs to help students get shadowing experience. My roommate has been able to shadow a drama surgeon and I have been able to shadow a colorectal surgeon. You should start there.
