What is the general consensus on LORs required? I have a committee rec from my science professors, one from the hospital i volunteered at, and one from the physician i shadowed. Would this be good for most schools?

Also: I'm about to start choosing which schools to apply to.. can you guys recommend some of the "better bets"? The schools that are less competitive. Preferably but not necessarily in the North East, florida or cali.

I have MSAR but i know sometimes schools that show less competitive stats are actually way more competitive on more subtle things, that's why i ask here.

Thank you.

Bring your list over to the WAMC thread!

To be honest, the MSAR is your best bet. Look for private schools as well as public schools that accept >25% out of state students that have GPA and MCAT averages around or below your GPA and MCAT, and you'll have a better chance of getting interviews. There really is no way to say which schools are more or less competitive with regard to anything but MCAT or GPA.

If you've made your list and need to figure out which schools to add or cut, try the WAMC forum.

Thanks guys. I haven't decided upon schools just yet, but i will check in the WAMC soon.

Regarding the LORs, should i be in the clear with my Committee Rec, physician Rec, and Hospital Rec?

A committee letter is considered sufficient (everywhere I am aware of) to meet and not exceed all requested parameters.
