315. Which of the following is true regarding gram-positive spore-forming bacteria?
A. all gram-positive rods form spore when nutrients are limited
B. spore are highly resistant to heat and chemicals
C. spores have high metabolic activity and can be destroyed at 160 degrees celsius
D. autoclave is not effective in spore elimination

Answer is B.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought spores were a form of reproduction for fungi and bacteria. Are the test writers confusing spore with endospore? Endospores are formed during bad times when there isn't enough nutrients, etc.

255. Which of the following is true regarding endocytosis?
I. a membrane bound vesicle will be digested by primary lysosomes.
II. it requires the use of ATP
III. it depends on the presence of a cell surface receptor to initiate the recognition process.

Correct answer is All of the above. I'm pretty sure that ATP is not used during endocytosis. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

thanks

Really? Does stuff like clathrin mediated, phagocytosis, and pinocytosis require ATP hydrolysis?

thanks

- All bacterial spores and endospores which are used for hard times as you indicated. Only fungi form spores for reproduction. Bacteria reproduce by binary fission and related mechanisms.

- Endocytosis, as a form of active transport, must consume ATP. As you stated, it is mediated by cell-surface receptor proteins. Also, the vesicle that is formed proceeds to the lysozome.
