For the application cycle for 2006, course codes are no longer going to be used. We have to enter the courses exactly as they appear on our transcript. BUT, this leads me to a question....how do we then mark which courses are for BCP gpa, science gpa, etc. For example, I am taking a class called Mold and Mushrooms or something like that. How will AADSAS know what category to place it under. It is under the department of Plant Pathology and thus would be categorized as such, but how would AADSAS know that? 😕 All replies appreciated, thanks.

I kinda had the same concern, but i think they only got rid of the codes (numbers) and we still have to mark each course as grad/undergrad or BCP/sci/non-sci.

This wouldn't happen to be "Magical Mushrooms and Mischevious Molds?"

It's been a long time since I did AADSAS, but did they ever have the student mark each course as a BCP/science/or non-science?

As far as my memory serves me, it seems like they've always assigned those catergories to the coursework, and that the applicant has no say in it.

Well what I meant was, when they had course codes you had to enter a course based on what course code you thought it was under. Sometimes, this makes a difference. For example, Plant Pathology is counted for bcp and sci gpa, whereas Plant Science is only counted for sci gpa. How would AADSAS know which category your course falls under if the title of the course on your transcript does not make that clear? Sorry for the confusion.

Good question. I know several people used the previous method to their advantage, when "gray area" classes that helped their GPA would be marked under the category known to count towards BCP, and those that hurt their GPA would be conveniently left off. I personally don't agree with that method but I wonder if that is why AADSAS is putting the kabosh on it.

Gotcha. I follow what you're saying.

It DOES make a difference.

So then AADSAS is just going to put it under whatever category they think it falls under, even if they know absolutely nothing about the course and what it entails? And wouldn't it take them forever to do that for each student's application? I'm so confused

We had several adcoms come and talk to our Pre-Dental Society, and they all said that they expect AADSAS to be an even bigger nightmare next year than it was this year. One of them said that you still have to list your classes, and that if it does not appear exactly as it is on your transcript, (i.e.: there is one course left off or in the wrong semester) then your application will not be processed until you correct the application yourself (at which point it will need to reenter the verification process). You might want to contact the admission offices to see if the people who run AADSAS have grown a brain and have figured a more efficient process (We were told about this in November, things might have changed..). If this happens, it is going to be a major headache (even when compared to past years).
