My first year Bio course was a two-semester class (8 credits equivalent). However now its been split into 2 half courses, each one semester long (4 credits each) - called it Bio 1 and Bio 2.

I needed to retake bio, and am now completing the two halves. I asked AACOMAS to see if this would be allowed as a retake. They said they cannot tell me until I actually complete the course and apply.

Does anybody have experience with this? Did it work out for you?

Thanks!

You can only replace one course with one course IF it has a similar name/title and has the same OR GREATER amount of units then the original first attempt.

In your case, these 2 separate 4 unit courses will not be combined to replace one 8-unit course.

BTW... Where the heck can you take an 8 unit course? The most I've ever seen in a college catalog in my area is 5 units.

Thats unfortunate. My school doesn't offer the original course anymore though. Ill have to figure something out. Thanks for your reply!

I suggest trying to replace any other courses that will help increase your GPA a little bit more drastically. Good luck.

I feel like the adcoms would accept the two halves as a valid retake - it seems to be the same material and same course, just divided. Is it possible that they would average the two halves into a final grade?

Yes, I thought about that too. I don't know if they will recalculate my GPA though? I will call around next week and try to get some answers.

This seems to be a common problem though. Seeing as how some schools transition from semester o quarter terms (or vice versa), and that creates issues for many students.
