should we take Cell biology and genetics? what about anatomy and physiology?

will those two courses neccessary for the DAT? or is reading through the kaplan prep book good enough to get a good score?

none of them are really required, but id recommend physiology. i found it really helpful

they will help a bit, I only had basic biology when I took it and I did fine, I wouldn't delay taking the test to take those courses the kaplan book should be fine...also google "columbia review" and get the bio guide.

I think the material covered in the kaplan prep book is good enough for an average to above average score on the DAT but if you want to score in the 20+ range you might want to have some of those classes you mentioned. I remember having about 4-6 questions on my DAT related to genetics so I would recommend that class for sure.

you really don't need to take an entire class on genetics to do the genetics problems or physiology to answer the problems on physiology. Basic freshman 100 level biology is all you need to get 20s on the DAT. The only advanced bio courses I took was neuro and biochem and I still got a 23 on the bio section. I mean, if taking those courses fulfills your degree requirements, by all means take it. Especially a class like anatomy, which will actually help you in dental school since you will already be familiar with the subject when you take it again. Don't take the class just to do well on the DAT though, because i don't see the point of taking an entire course to answer 2 or 3 questions on an exam. You'll find every single answer to the bio section of DAT in your general biology textbook. Also, get Schaum's Bio outline. I heard it's very good in terms of content.

Okay thanks for all of your input.

How much difficult did you guys find courses like cell bio, genetics, anatomy to be in comparison to general biology?
