Just wondering about 4th yr courses for pre-opt. I'll only be doing a 4th research project, and maybe a non science 4th yr course (maybe health). The rest are 2 - 3rd yr bios and a bird course which is not really bio, but its labelled SCI.

Does the admission team look at the courses and what type they are? I'm going into 4th yr by the way.

I did a 499 project too, and interviewers loved to hear about it! They realize thats its a huge undertaking, so I don't think it will hurt if your other classes are only 2nd or 3rd year courses. But definately be prepared to talk about your research at the interviews - they'll all ask you about it! If there's a possibility of being published, even better.

I also did a very intense, research project in which I defended my work and published my thesis. However, none of the schools seemed to really care about the work at my interviews. Be prepared to talk about the research in the event that it comes up, but I wouldn't expect a huge interest in the research. I would suggest taking a year of Biochemisty if you can! It will be a great help, I can promise it!

Just wondering what schools both of you applied too? Which one cared about the resaearch, which one didn't? I don't want to go "in depth" about it, because they might think i LOVE research, which i don't at all!

Yup, i've taken biochem already. I jut want to raise my GPA in 4th yr. Its not above 80 🙁 Too much competition at UW.

SCCO asked me a lot about it - what did I do, will I get published, why did I do it, etc. At Nova, they asked me to explain what my project was about, and what I learned from it. ICO didn't really ask about it, from what I remember. At UW, I brought it up myself (because its a closed-book interview), but they seemed very interested and asked me to explain the project a bit. It always brought smiles to the interviewers' faces, because as profs, they are all involved in research.
