COVID Vaccine

Update- dose 2 on Sunday. Last two days achy, chills, very tired, headache. Somewhat better today.

I do have a strange urge to replace my HP laptop and Samsung tablet with MS Surface Pros, purchase Flight Simulator, and update with a paid subscription to OFFICE. I also have a sense that I'm being followed or tracked.

I always tell people that black licorice has the flavor of distilled soy sauce and the texture of chewing on a tire. Somehow this hasn't been very enticing....

Have any of you ruthless black licorice haters ever tried salty licorice (i.e., salmiak/salmiac licorice/liquorice)? Some folks like that even if they can't stand the more traditional black licorice, like what we typically have here in the US.

I think I’ve tolerated the Dutch stuff in the past (“Zoute drop”), but in general I don’t need that negativity in my life. Just like I don’t need sweet pickles.

Them's fightin' words.

Although to get slightly back on topic for a moment, I'm wondering when states may start trying to roll out to the larger population. Or at least proceed to phase 2-ish. I haven't been able to find much in the way of concrete updates where I am.

Are you all sharing with your patients that you are vaccinated? (...to put them at ease, if you need to do in-person visits.) I was, but now...seems silly because the vaccine only protects and reduces risk of mortality (for the person vaccinated). We could still be asymptomatic carriers. Of course, we are still maintaining all CDC/WHO protocols (mask wearing, social distancing, use of antibacterials/frequent handwashing, etc.). Thanks in advance for sharing.

#PandemicFatigue over here (in NYC). 🥺

I always have a bag of double zout on hand. Love the stuff.

I haven't been, but if a patient asked, such as if they were considering the vaccine themselves, I would certainly disclose.

Yes, but with those caveats (not sure if it prevents transmission). I share an office suite with another neuropsych, we are both now vaccinated and our in-office transmission prevention procedures will not change for the time being.

As an anecdote, I had mine midday Tuesday, and I am just today feeling up for a workout. Excited as I just bought some new powerblocks and some other stuff to start filling out my home gym.
That is so funny you say that, I just texted a friend that I did an interval treadmill workout this morning that I loved, and was hoping to be okay to do the next one in the series tomorrow morning (I also have a little home gym). Looks like I may have to expect not to. But it sounds like you lost about three days, so I might be up for it on Monday if I follow a similar trajectory. I had so much fatigue with shot #1, so if my reaction is similar but worse, I won't be doing anything.

Wednesday was rough due to continued achiness and being tired from little sleep the night before. Yesterday I just had a lot of fatigue. Like, I went grocery shopping and had to lie down for a while.

I also ended up taking two days off from the gym after the shot. The first morning after, I definitely wouldn't have been able to make it through a workout. The second morning, I probably could have gone, but I thought it best to get some extra sleep so that I could make it through the work day.

As a related aside, the soreness from my workout the morning of the shot didn't help with my mobility. At all (it was leg day). There was lots of rolling out of bed.

I tried to pull of a multi quote but it is beyond my skill level apparently. I hope I get the sore arm reaction and nothing else! My digital trainer talks a lot about body stress and how putting too much exercise stress on a body that's dealing with other stuff isn't a good idea. So I'm going to pay attention to how I feel and let myself rest if needed, as bad as I can be about doing that. If I get a fever or nausea I'm not tough enough to push through that anyway haha.

I've had patients ask if I've gotten the vaccine and I've been telling them that I have.

Agree, besides hopefully protecting our patients if the vaccines decrease potential for transmission, I think it's also important to act as an example to combat vaccine hesitancy out there.

When I got Moderna #2 I did not get Moderna arm at all, but basically every other symptom posted in this thread and that's been published as somewhat frequent. Back to 100% now and happy with it all.

Got my second moderna dose on Thursday and experienced far less #ModernaArm than with the first. Had an incredibly strange waking dream that night where every hour and a half period was a separate video game quest to eradicate a specific symptom that I felt especially strongly during that time (chills, congestion, shortness of breath, body aches) that theoretically would lead to me feeling better. Yesterday was very tired from not having slept and had a mild headache, feel fine today. Wish I had written my experiences down for a future movie script lol

2nd Moderna, fatigue was better, but body pain was much worse and I had a rough night's sleep with pain, edging toward a low-grade fever. It cleared up a lot by the next night, and the next day I still was tired but had no pain. Could work out by the third day.
So glad to have had it, and so glad that it's over and done, for now.

Pfizer #1: dull throbbing headache, but nothing else.

Got Pfizer #2 last Friday morning. Felt fine all day Friday, then went to bed and woke up at midnight with chills and fever. Temp fluctuations all night, so of course I got crap sleep. On Saturday, fluctuations continued and I was so exhausted (took 2 naps during the day). Took an Advil PM before bed, then woke up Sunday feeling perfectly fine!

Second shot update: #ModernaArm was wayyy worse than the first shot, but was otherwise fine for most the day. That night, I woke up with chills, aches, nausea, and a pretty decent fever. Had to call in sick to work because you can't be at the clinic with a fever.

Edit: A day later, I'm feeling much better.

I’m my state, I’m not priority for the vaccine and although I was told educators were next in line, suddenly they changed the protocol in my county so not ALL educators qualified (college educators who don’t teach in this county don’t qualify)—so more waiting. Psychologists in my county who don’t see clients in person aren’t priority and will have to wait.

Strange situation that my spouse is vaccinated and I’m not, and the only difference is that spouse got vaccinated through work.

The rules don’t make sense. I have other psychologist friends in the same state who are already vaccinated because they were considered to be in an earlier tier (even though they’re doing telehealth as well) whereas somehow in my county, I’m not.

I got the 2nd Moderna on Friday. I had a 102 fever for two days, 101 for one day, and 2 more days of lower grade fevers. Despite taking it on a Friday, I still had to take off Mon and Tues from internship. But, I work in a setting where I wouldn't be allowed in with a fever, anyway. I am sharing with my clients that I received the vaccine, although so far my entire caseload has refused it (they all already had covid as well).

Had my second dose yesterday--I'm going to admit to being lame and taking yesterday and today pretty much entirely off (might do some writing this evening), Eh, even if I don't, I have 8 pubs already this tenure year (9 if you count the one that has been accepted with minor revisions), so I'm probably fine with two days off.

Feeling somewhat feverish and having some mild generalized pain today and yesterday and some moderate pain in the arm I received the vaccine in (though lying on it this morning created pretty severe pain, do not recommend), but last night, I did get a weird "flash fever"--all of the sudden my body was just drenched in sweat.

Dose one of Pfizer today - my arm is incredibly sore (I cannot lift it and I got the vaccine 4 hours ago) and I have a bit of a headache. I have a feeling that the second dose is going to hit me like a truck. I’m grateful that I was able to receive it!

Scheduled to get Moderna #1 tomorrow. I'm terrified. I'm the person who gets fevers, shakes, and bronchitis after seasonal flu vaccines, so...... not looking forward to this. I have so many appointments scheduled for this week too, and I'd rather not reschedule any of them if I can help it, but....

Weird, do you have any severe allergies or autoimmune issues? Even in asthmatics and those with COPD, the flu vaccine doesn't cause any pulmonary exacerbations.

Yep, I do. Undiagnosed autoimmune disorder, we’re in the midst of trying to figure it out. (Highly elevated all types of WBCs on CBC panel but most specific tests - e.g. lupus, etc all come back negative). I basically feel sick 24/7 but have no fever. I do have dermatographia so my entire arm is usually very unhappy after shots.

My bronchitis is chronic so it’s not necessarily that it is the primary reaction to the vaccine, but that the vaccine side effects cause a resultant flare up :(

Update: my entire body hurts and I have fever and chills, as expected :( It feels dumb to call out of work but I’m definitely considering it.

I just got my second shot of Moderna today.

First shot: mild fatigue and sore arm

Second shot (7 hours out): moderate throbbing headache, mild fatigue, and arm pain. We'll see how the next day or so goes...

Just got my second dose of Pfizer today. Nervously awaiting those side effects...

We're getting real world efficacy experiment, myself and spouse vaccinated, toddler with a positive covid result from daycare outbreak.
Hope the toddler feels better soon. Haven’t heard as much in the news about how COVID affects the youngest humans so hoping it’s mild.

Nothing dumb about it; employers are giving folks "free" sick/admin leave for a reason. If you don't feel well, stay home (which includes not teleworking, either). Hard to be present with patients if you're feeling like crud the whole time.

Sorry to hear that! How's the kid feeling? Are you expected to quarantine even if vaccinated?

100 percent agree. I thought I was fine - 24 hours into my second dose I felt great. Then my patients saw me rubbing my arm and reach for a bottle of advil and were like "did you get the shot?!" and then "k group is over now, turn off your computer". And...they were right. Took off the next day and a half.
