i'm an MS3 interested in craniofacial reconstruction, and am wondering if the best way to get there would be through ENT or plastics.

i've heard that you can do a facial plastics fellowship post ENT residency, but this seems to be mostly cosmetic. i'm more interested in reconstruction of the skull- eg post-trauma, congenital defects, etc. i also like that ENT supposedly has more medical management, although airways haven't really caught my interest. (i could see myself liking ears though.)

on the other hand, i spent a few days shadowing plastics guys recently, and didn't really think it was a good personality match for me. (i've spent most of my time in the happy land of pediatric subspecialties, and the poor plastics residents just seemed super grumpy and overworked.) also, flaps weren't as thrilling as i thought they'd be, and i could go either way about the hand.

any advice would be much appreciated.

The better way would be to go through plastic surgery, mostly because of dealing with turf wars and not because a general surgery graduate is better trained than an ENT graduate.

Perhaps an even better way would be to go back in time and do OMFS.
