So I have been reading several posts where many people on some of the schools admissions committee's are making comments, Many are very helpful actually but here is what I was pondering and I was wondering if anyone else thought of this. So the way PTCAS works is that for each school you apply to, those particular schools cannot see what other schools you have applied to unless you are accepted into the school and then they can see what other schools you have gotten into, etc etc. With this year and many recent years being very competitive with a high number of applicants, and the decision process being very tedious and complicating, would it be unfathomable to think that some admissions people are checking the GPA,GRE stat, and School thread and tying in a ptcas profile with a SDN profile. It wouldnt be that hard to do but there would be a lot of speculation. But if they saw one profile where someone has applied to 15 schools with similar stats and then one that only applied to 5 schools with the same stats and was in-state, That would make a decision a little bit easier maybe? or who knows hahahha I know this is far fetched but at one of the interviews i went to, one of the faculty members actually admitted to looking up profiles on facebook of applicants. He actually said they knew what some of us even looked like. So if they are going to those extremes then maybe this one isn't that farfetched.

I must say I am not paranoid or worried but it was something that i was pondering hahahaha 😀

I think you're over thinking it.

I also heard that they send tiny little drones over every posters house to spy on them. They're watching.

I bet they could, but it a lot of man power and hours they don't have. As long as everyone is on their Ps and Qs we should be fine. But then again SDN did give the disclaimer that our posts are open for all to see (including potential schools & employers). My stats are out there and if someone wanted they could probably figure out who I was. Rule of thumb....play nice in the sandbox fellow SDN users 🙂

They also might be calling someone you know and asking question about you......maybe even the people that you provided as your LOR.

The Facebook thing is fairly common, but I know I'm pretty hard to find on there.

Absolutely!

I am an Admissions Committee Chair for a school. We were wondering about the 'application process' of PT students, not just those who come to the Univ where I work. So this is a good place to know what misconceptions are out there to try to get ahead of them with our application materials.

And PTCAS does not list where else you apply until later. We do not have that information now. We start a new class in August and we find out in April or so. All we look at is overall percents - who are our peer institutions (applicants apply to us and who else). That is all we use it for, and therefore the percents are sufficient for us. I would guess most schools are the same. Schools do not typically 'compete' for applicants.

Well this site must be a gold mine for info regarding the application process of PT students. I've anonymously posted every neurotic thought and worry I've ever had about the process on this site... and I know I'm not the only one. Good thing we're not using first names. However, I definitely changed my last name on facebook to Stephanopolous until I was officially accepted. My friends post some ridiculous stuff on my page...:uhno:

We have never looked at an applicant on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Really, all faculty teach, do research, have meetings, maybe practice clinically.....we do not care about your kegstands at Homecoming. I am sure most of us did the same things when we were undergrads 🙂
