Hello

so I've been running into credit units, hours, FCEs, etc and it's all very confusion. I go to U of Toronto so I am only familar with the FCEs so 1 full year course = 1 FCE and 0.5 FCE = 1 semester or 1/2 year so a total of 20 FCEs is needed to graduate (5 FCEs per year for 4 years).

Can anyone help me make sense of these units into FCEs or etc.?

30 credits of transferrable work (they use units of 6/course yet it seems like 30 credits is 30 semesters or 3 years :S)?

2) From U of Manatoba: Standard Admission Requirement (University I: total of 30 credit hours): (how does it add up to 30 if the units are 3/course???)

  • CHEM 1300 (3)
  • CHEM 1310 (3)
  • BIOL 1020 (3)
  • BIOL 1030 (3)
  • or the old Biology 071.125 (6) in place of the above two courses.
  • MATH 1500, 1510, 1520, or 1530 (3) or more (6 cr. h.)
  • 6 credit hours of Arts electives (of which 3 hours satisfy the University Written English requirement): 0900 courses such as ENGL 0940 are NOT acceptable.
  • 9 credit hours of open electives: 0900 courses such as ENGL 0930 are NOT acceptable.
3) Similarly from UBC (does a 3 mean 1 semester or 6 mean that?), does the 9 for bio mean 1.5 years of bio courses?

BIOL 112, 116, 125 9

CHEM 121/1231 or CHEM 111/1132 6

Two of ENGL 112, 113, 150, 151, 152, 153 6

MATH 100/101 6

PHYS 112/1223 or 1114 3/6

Total 30/33

Thank you so much

1) they're talking about 30 credit hours. so 10 courses. including 6 credit hours of bio, which is like two semesters worth of bio

2)
Part 1 - 12 credit hours
  • CHEM 1300 (3)
  • CHEM 1310 (3)
  • BIOL 1020 (3)
  • BIOL 1030 (3)
    ---
  • or the old Biology 071.125 (6) in place of the above two courses.
Part 2 - 18 credit hours
  • MATH 1500, 1510, 1520, or 1530 (3) or more (6 cr. h.)
  • 6 credit hours of Arts electives (of which 3 hours satisfy the University Written English requirement): 0900 courses such as ENGL 0940 are NOT acceptable.
  • 9 credit hours of open electives: 0900 courses such as ENGL 0930 are NOT acceptable.

Part 1 + Part 2 = 30 credit hours

3)
  • BIOL 112, 116, 125
    9 credit hours = 3 courses
  • CHEM 121/1231 or CHEM 111/1132
    6 credit hours = 2 courses
  • Two of ENGL 112, 113, 150, 151, 152, 153
    6 credit hours = 2 courses
  • MATH 100/101
    6 credit hours = 2 courses
  • PHYS 112/1223 or 1114
    3 credit hours = 1 course OR 6 credit hours = 2 courses
this is depending on whether you want to take 1 physics course or 2 physics courses
  • Total -- 30 credit hours = 10 courses OR 33 credit hours = 11 courses
    • 30 credit hours (10 courses) if you take 1 physics course
    • 33 credit hours (11 courses) if you take 2 physics courses

I don't know about the other universities, but for UBC, the Bio credit is basically a full year, plus a lab.
So for the people that went to UBC, that would be BIOL 121, 112 and 140. Biol 121= genetics, evolution and ecology; Biol 112= cellular biology; and Biol 140= Lab only.

I am confused as to where you got the numbers for the courses from UBC, especially Biol and Engl...because I do not think we have those courses numbers....
