This is a question for anyone who has interviewed at Creighton, or knows more about it than I do! I just received an invite to interview yesterday (by email) and am trying to decide whether it is worth the plane ticket. I have been accepted to Loyola, and this is the only other interview I have been offered. At this point, only really knowing that Creighton is in Omaha (which is not a positive for me) I am inclined to just not go. Will Creighton surprise me? Can it compete with Loyola? Thanks for the advice and opinions, and good luck to all!

You're in a similar boat as me. I got into Creighton and am debating on whether a trip to NYMC is worth it.

I didn't apply to Loyola, but I really liked Creighton. Omaha was smallish but fine. You can actualy drive across town in a predictibale amount of time, but it still has a city feel rather than a small town feel. The students really loved being there, and the faculty/student interaction was very positive. I never really got the impression that this was bottom choice for anyone there.

I've heard similar things about Loyola, though. Outside of the cost of living, I would love to live in Chicago. I certainly think Creighton can compete with Loyola academically. Obviously, there are personal things to take into account--big city vs. small city, cost of living, where your family lives, etc.

If you can swing it, I think that interviewing is worth it. Southwest flies there for cheap, and I got a hotel from Priceline for under $45. Depending on where you are coming from, you could probably get in and out of there for less than $150.

I am a 2nd year here and can say that I really like it. I will also say that many people who come here know absolutely nothing about Creighton or Omaha (as was my case when I interviewed here) and leave with it being in the top 2 of their choices. I know this because it was the case for me and I host students almost every weekend with the host program (which I highly recommend doing, rather than a hotel). Every student that stays with me leaves with this same sentiment. I don?t think it is ever a good idea to turn down an interview for a few reasons (even if you have been accepted to Hahvad or Stanford or some place else that you previously guaranteed yourself of going to). 1) I love to fly and see different cities and parts of the country 2) You never know, you may be completely surprised by the experience (especially if you have only interviewed at one school) 3) You may one day have to apply to that place for a residency position - at least you will have made some contacts and seen the place before. I know nothing about Loyola, so it is hard for me to compare, but I would assume that since they are a sister school to Creighton (in the Jesuit family) they are very similar.

Though I will probably get flamed on and docuw may be an exception to this, I personally can't stand most Creighton students.

Many of them seem have a very pompous attitude and look down on those who are not trust-fund, mommy and daddy pay my way through school, non-Creighton kids. When I interviewed at UNMC it wasn't hard to figure out who went Creighton because they were sure to tell you.

OK, I'm done ranting now. Take it for what it's worth, its my opinion and my opinion only. Omaha is a cool town; College World Series, Maerick Hockey, good resturants, and fun enough bar scene. Peace.

I can't say that I have witnessed this in the med school. I didnt go to undergrad here (from U of Wa), but I do notice this about the undergrads. Many of them living off of daddy's buck. I do think there may be some attitude of superiority over UNMC amongst some of the locals, but that is to be exepected with any inner city rivalry I am sure.

I must apree with doc here. I am an M1 at Creighton and though the undergrad studnets here may be "living off dady's buck" as it has been put, that is definitely not the case when it comes to the med school. The people here are pretty much the polar opposite from the undergrad students. The med students here are all very welcoming, warm, friendly and helpful. In fact, what drew me to Creighton was the fact that the students here were much more laid back and easy going and not in the least stuck up about med school. At several other med school where I interviewed the students were very stuck up and were very high on themselves. By this I mean that there were many huge egos. This is not the case here. When you go to med school there are not many kids that have their parents pay for med school, so most of us are in the same boat of living entirely off student loans, and that is an incredibly humbling experience. Try it.
I would be glad to answer any other questions you may have about Creighton. I just wanted to let you all know that the undergrad students do not in any way represent the med students here.
Good luck in your applications.

NE_Corn fails to realize that things do change once in med school. I know a few people in the Creighton med school, and they are so down to Earth its not funny.

If you are worried about Omaha, and living in a place called Nebraska, then you shouldn't check it out. however, Omaha is a fun city. Popualtion is around 600,000-700,000, there's tons to do, traffic isn't bad, cost of living isn't high, and there's tons to do, and there's tons to do.

Nebraska might be a boring state, but I would seriously give it a try.

If you do live in Chicago it's just and 7-8 hour drive to Omaha, plus Omaha's airport has several differnet airlines flying into it, including southwest. I would seriously go to the interivew.
