So after finally making a decision last week, I received an acceptance off a waitlist and now need to decide by Monday between these two schools. I received no scholarship money from Creighton, and a little from FAU, so the COAs are basically the same. I think I'm interested in a more competitive speciality, but not certain yet.
Creighton (Phoenix)
Pros
FAU
Pros
I'm pretty torn and know I would be happy at both of these schools. So was just looking for some insight on what people think.
Creighton (Phoenix)
Pros
- Brand new campus and buildings (amazing anatomy lab)
- Non-mandatory recorded lectures
- Great local hospitals for rotations
- Good curriculum timeline and elective clerkships
- Good match list when considering rank
- Great food and outdoor recreation
- Grading is P/F/H and no internal rankings
- 100 students in the class which I feel is perfect
- Being the first first years in Phoenix seems like they might not have everything in check
- Lots of mandatory in-person group sessions
- No established organizations or connections for intramural sports and stuff
- Very few home specialties in Phoenix
- Research opportunities aren’t really provided by the school it seems, we’re basically on our own to start asking around
- Above average cost of living
- Relatively low ranking
FAU
Pros
- Amazing location and close to the beach
- Good research opportunities and summer programs
- 64 class size which feels a little small, but more support systems because of that
- Curriculum fits me well
- Pretty new and nice facilities
- Connected undergrad for more recreational activities
- P/F, but unsure about internal rankings
- Less group session commitment than Creighton
- Even lower ranked than Creighton
- OOS tuition, but my scholarship makes it a little better
- Match list isn’t great, but some bright spots
- Cost of living is really expensive close to campus
- No connected teaching hospital
- Less well known, especially on the west coast
- Don’t know much about the clinical rotations or hospitals or home programs
