Criminal Background Check: Help, Urgent!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow, I would've thought more people would be open minded as well.

Can't wait for one of your kids to get busted one day or for school officials to find weed in their lockers sometime.

"Well son, I'm glad you got caught. Good luck getting into college with that on your record, stupid ****."

"Wow, thanks Dad. You really know how to talk to people."

Saying that you're glad they got caught is the most childish thing I've heard in a long time.

I'm not sure where you guys pulled doctors from though, a neurosurgeon who talks to their patient for a few minutes won't be torn one way or another when it comes to this experience. The patient doesn't care about your own life experiences, they care about how good of a doctor you are.

However, a GP/pediatrician who follows their patients into adolescence could probably use this experience as learning experience to help others.

For one, I'd be much more apt to listen to someone who told me about how a dreadful experience like this helped shape them and become successful anyways, than listen to Whoop explain to me how he sat under a rock while making me seem like a complete loser.

I love that everyone that tells the OP that he did such a stupid thing is being pegged as "close minded".

I'm not by any means perfect. No one is. In fact, I'm a non-trad student simply because of the stupid **** I pulled in high school. I've done things I'm not proud of. I won't air them here. But I don't think anyone could argue here that doing something like what the OP did was NOT smart, especially given that he is applying to medical school.

No one is saying that you have to live under a rock while in undergrad. I mean, who would want to? College life is supposed to be awesome. Take advantage of that, but also realize that everything you do could have a negative outcome if it's, oh I don't know, illegal. He had drugs on his person. He knowingly did this. He got caught. And now he's facing charges that could screw up his chance of getting into medical school. Those are the facts.

Keep in mind that we are on a pre-med forum. Everyone here is fighting tooth and nail to do everything they need to do to get into the medical school they want and to essentially live the dream they've wanted. And when someone does something unbelievably dumb and was fully aware they were doing it, you can't expect everyone to sugarcoat their responses and say, "Oh, it's okay, we've all done something stupid like that," because no one in their right mind applying to medical school would do so.

Lastly, the OP has only made one post, so he's either a troll, or just wanted some advice and is dealing with it on his own. It's over with. There have been so many threads as of late discussing DUIs, drugs, violence, etc. and how they affect people getting into medical school. The "close minded" vs. "open minded" crap has been done. Let it go. Some think it was incredibly dumb of the OP, and others think he should get a second chance. And maybe he should. But the truth of the matter is, if you're doing something like applying to medical school, don't f*ck it all up just because you feel you shouldn't limit your college experience.

Maybe some of you guys who are fussing at each other should drop a tab or two yourself.

Bet you'd feel a lot better.

Wow, I surprised how critical everyone on this board is. I would have though most pre-meds to be more open minded about this type of thing. If I were in your shoes I would still apply and explain that is was a bad mistake experimenting with drugs and you are over that now, if the rest of your app is strong it should show you aren't some junkie. A side rant, this is why I hate drug laws, turning otherwise productive and well meaning members of society into social pariahs. If I had it my way everyone would have to take acid at least once in lives.

"It's only in drugs or death we'll see anything new, and death is just too controlling."

And you're going to be some poor bastard's doctor?
