im scheduled to take my DAT May 23 but I'm thinking I may reschedule just to make sure Im 100% ready....this is my 3rd time now because I took it completely unprepared without proper direction and rushed the first two times...so basically i feel like this is my last chance...

so is it a big difference to get my application in by june 1st or say maybe mid june or so?

im going to get a better idea when i take some practice tests next week, but i sitll dont want to take any chance this time and rescheduling seems like the better option...but i just want to know if its going to hurt me a lot by not getting my application in the "first batch"

If this is your third time, MAKE SURE you are fully 100% prepared. After this, you have a slimmer chance of getting in even with stellar scores a 4th time. Normally applying on June 4th would be a very high priority, but in your case, you want to make sure you rock the DAT this time so you don't have to petition for a 4th time in case you end up not doing as well as you would like.

If you feel May 23rd is enough time then go ahead. If you feel not too ready, then postpone, study hard and apply in the Mid-Late June time-frame.

the fact that it's your third time, I would go ahead and postpone. No point on applying early if you don't have a DAT that's presentable (not saying I do, just my 2 cent)

yea thats pretty much what i was thinking....how does this whole application process work with the june 4th date...theres a batch that rolls in on june 4 which they evaluate, and then they evaluate the rest as they come in or what?

if i took may 23, my DAT scores probably wouldnt even be to the schools by the 4th since it takes about 2 weeks right?

So here is how it goes. June 4th or so the app cycle opens. You can fill it out the first day you want, or a week later it doesn't matter. Usually, AADSAS doesn't actually send out applications to schools until about 4 weeks after the cycle opens. So if it opens the 4th, AADSAS may not mail out completed (submitted) apps until June 29th-July 2nd. Usually they send out the first "batch" on a Friday or Monday. This varies year to year and you won't know the actual date unless you call towards the end of June where one of the reps may tell you a date. They send out apps only once a week, not on a rolling basis.
When your app is complete and you submitted your transcripts, it will take AADSAS some time to verify your coursework. They say two weeks, but for me it took a couple of days. As for DAT scores, they say it can take up to two weeks for your DAT score to be uploaded with your app after you take it but it probably will take less than that. If you are so keen on being in the first batch, which I think is overrated, then plan on taking the DAT no later than mid-June.

I'm in a similar boat. I have my DAT scheduled for June 15, but I was thinking about pushing it back to June 29. That way I will be able to complete DentalWorks 8 week program (I turned it into a 6 week program) and also look over the material I don't have down as much as I need. I also am horrible at math, so the QR section will probably require more than just the KBB math section and the Math Destroyer. Is there a certain date for the second "batch" of applications? Or is it just whenever they are submitted. Also, since I guess AADSAS is a 3 week submission time, and the DAT is only 2 weeks, should I shoot for putting in my application 1 week before my DAT? Thanks!

i think im aiming for june 7 or 8th and then a week or so to complete my applications...so i should be okay with that then right?

Yes, you will be in the first batch

The second batch would be exactly 7 days after the first batch, the 3rd batch would be 7 days after the 2nd, etc etc

It is definitely better to postpone your DAT a couple weeks and get a much better score than applying to AADSAS early with DAT scores that are not representative of your highest potential.

and Suarez, I was jw, are you 100% sure that it won't matter whether you complete AADSAS on June 4th or say on June 20th?
Just curious cause I spoke with one of my dentists that I shadow with the other day and he said he submitted his the day it opened up (June 1 I believe for him), believing that the early you submitted your app the better.
