CSR Bonus for the Navy

Just wondering if any of the Navy folk here had heard of the new approved bonus for navy dentistry. Critical Skills Retention Bonus .....it'll get you an extra $20,000 per year after you finish your initial tour but only if your NOT a specialist and only if you sign a two year agreement (ergo $40,000 every two years).

This sounds very familiar. Recently, a commander I talked with mentioned this very thing about getting such a bonus or at least one similar to it. I think he said it was around 30K. At any rate, that is a dam good bonus in my humble opinion. I'd take that before or after taxes in a second.

He was probably talking about the multi-year retention bonus. You're eligible for that bonus once you complete advanced training...(Comp, oper, endo, OMFS, etc...). The CSR bonus was meant for those who hadn't completed any advanced training yet as an incentive to stay in a little longer.

I think you are correct. This is great information. Is it me, or does it seem as if the Navy and Air Force are proactive about the dentist shortage. Does this exist for the Army? I never hear about these things being offered. Maybe that would help curb the shortage the Army is experiencing. Of all the branches, the Army has the greatest need. It would make sense if they didn't have this option already to get on the ball. But then again, a lot of things don't make sense. Thanks again.
