cube counting help

Can someone please help me with this exercise. I don't get the stack of cubes on the far left side. Thanks!

Oh man that one really had me for a bit. It's tricky.

On the left section (anything left of the tall stack), there are only 2 cubes on the 2nd level - the cube immediately to the left of the tall stack, and the cube on the bottom left most part. All other cubes are on the first level.

It's confusing since the cube on the 2nd level on the bottom left looks like it's the same height as the cube above and to the left of it (in the picture the square just up and right of it) which is on the 1st level.

yeah that one is bogus, has anyone ever seen anything this tricky on the real DAT?

From what everyone else has said on the forum, no illusions on the DAT cube counting.

yea there were no illusions. Everything was simple and easy to count. Have no worries.

Hey fish! Cube counting use to be my worst, now im almost getting a perfect score on that section. Ill give you some helpful hints that I have learned.
1) Count up how many cubes there are in total
2) Make colums for 1 sided, 2 sided 3 sides cubes etc.
3) Now count up how many cubes have the respected sides.
4) If the number of cubes in the colums you made is the same as the number of cubes you initially counted match up you good!!!

I know this method seems like it might take long on the exam. But with practice you will get fast at it, good luck.

Yah, i just did Crack DAT PAT test 4 and had an illusion on the cube counting and caused me to miss all 3 questions. I usually get all cube questions correct, maybe miss one here and there.

My strategy is to count all the cubes. I look at home many levels of cubes there are(say 2, 3, 4 or 5, usually never more than 5). So I count each level and separate it on my paper by a line. It makes it easier for me to keep track of each cube so I dont over or under count any cubes. It seems to work for me. It also gives you a better visual at how many cubes are on each level. The bottom level has the most cubes so sometimes I recount how many lower level cubes there are and compare it with how many I counted and wrote on my paper to make sure I did it correct.

I hope there are no illusions on the real DAT, i took it once a couple of years ago and didnt have an illusion so lets hope its clear and easy to see.

There are no illusions on the real DAT. The cubes are all straightforward and very easy. If you can do all of the non illusion questions on CDP you will know all 15 cube questions.

just how long does it take you now that you've gotten good at it? that seems almost extreme.

hurts my brain. I don't recall ever seeing one like that on the actual DAT though...

I think that one is messed up somehow.. The cube in the middle isn't even a cube, it's a parallelagram.... the way i see it there is one level behind the middle stack, but there is no far top line to end the cube... any one else see this? If there were no cube then there would be no line on the ground?????

This same Q from CDP was posted last year lol...Man i remember doin that one lol....i had to turn the screen to the side and i saw it lol gluck i hope there arent any like that on the real DAT. Gluck

Here's a pic of the same cube stack but each level is color coded. The first level is green, the second level is red, etc.

I also put marks on one of the cubes to hopefully orient some of you correctly. That cube is in the same diagonal line as the red cube there, except on a different level. Someone standing on the green cube with the black marks would walk down and left and run into the red cube. If they walked up and left they would FALL OFF. There is no cube there.

I thought the stack on the left side was 2 levels high straight across. Now that you've pointed out, it makes sense. I got dizzy just looking at that image.
