not that it matters, but i'm curious--

for undergraduate degrees awarded at graduation, do schools take into account your last quarter's grades? i.e. my graduation is literally the week of my finals, so i dont know how theyd be able to calculate my new gpa unless they had professors submit grades super early...

At my school, unless you finished your classes in December and wanted to walk in May, they will use whatever your gpa is in the winter of your senior year. They don't have enough time to get the grades in before the graduation, and somewhere it says that you graduating is in anticipation that you pass all your classes in the spring.

my school takes spring grades into account (they actually have deadlines for professors to turn in grades for seniors that end up being a few days before professors have to turn in grades for everyone else). i'm on a semester system, though...and our finals end about a week and a half before graduation day itself. we still don't find out about honors until the day of graduation, though.

My school doesn't. I received my cap and gown as well as honors cords a few months back. Graduation is Saturday, with final grades being due 2 days later on Monday.

My school took senior spring grades, too, but the ceremony was after exam week. If your ceremony is during exam week, they'll probably only use up to your senior fall grades.

Of course, this really shouldn't make a huge difference anyway, since by senior year, your GPA is calculated from so many credits that a single semester's grades shouldn't have a terribly significant effect either way on your GPA, barring a straight-F spring.

I sure hope they use my spring grades! I am .01 away from summa cum laude and I am anticipating meeting the grade cutoff!

Good for you for not being lazy like me.

I am .01 away from summa as well, but I didn't feel like trying for all As this semester and I'm just trying to keep my magna status.

I'm in a similar situation. My school has weird requirements, you can get magna with a 3.65 + senior thesis, or a 3.75 without senior thesis. To get summa you need 3.75 + senior thesis and you can't get it without one.

I could do the senior thesis and graduate summa... or I could take a really easy senior year and be happy with magna. Guess which one I'm doing. 😀

Once I was accepted, grades just didn't matter and I would rather take it easy for the last time. Sometimes laziness/relaxation is worth taking a GPA hit. It's not like the end result is horrible anyway.

Yeah, i asked my school and they do take the last quarter's grades. *grumble grumble* Haha! But I guess it doesn't really matter in the long term. Just a matter of pride ;] Haha.

Ouch, summa at my school is 3.96! I wish I had the above requirements

to get latin honors at my school you have to have completed a thesis or have been doing honors work throughout your entire 4 years. I would have had to take 2 classes for honors this semester and since only one prof ever got back to me about what would be required, I said to hell with it and enjoyed the fact that I've been on Dean's list 7 times so far and got in to med school. If anyone thinks I need to do more to be a good student, they can bite me. 😀

PSU here and it is a 3.98 for summa in the science college. Pretty steep and I am at 3.977 right now, wonder if it'll count.

Is it okay to put "highest honors" on your app if you will be graduating two weeks after the app is submitted? I'm pretty much absolutely certain I'll be getting it, but I certainly wont at the time of submission.

If it's based on GPA, there's pretty much no point unless you are looking for a space filler.

I mean, they have your GPA after all.

3.75 or 3.85 in here though we count only upper levels. So I would definitely win it.
