Hi! I just got my MCAT score today and am working on coming up with a list of schools to apply to. Ideally, I'd have a healthy mix of safe, target, and reach schools but am not really sure what constitutes each category so I was hoping someone could explain how to draw the cut-offs.

I am a super non-traditional applicant. I finished my undergrad and MSc in the UK in Economics and Health Economics. I then moved back to the US to do a post-bacc. I have a 3.97 GPA and scored 512 on my MCAT. ECs include scribing x 1.5yrs, shadowing, volunteering very regularly for a health care related non-profit, and volunteer tutoring 1 per week x 6 months. I'm also in the process of transitioning to a new job in laboratory research but that won't start until August 2018.

Safety: GPA range _____, MCAT range_______
Target: GPA range_____, MCAT range_______
Reach: GPA range _____, MCAT range_______

THANK YOU!

1) Invest in the MSAR for the most up-to-date numbers for each school.
2) undergrad (science & cumulative)/masters/post-bacc GPAs are all viewed differently. 3.97 won't hold you back anywhere depending on which category it falls within.
3) "Safety" schools can include your state schools as well. What is your state of residency?
4) Since you moved back to the US, I'm assuming you are a US citizen?

Hi! Thanks for replying.

3.97 is my science GPA - unfortunately, most schools won't consider my undergraduate degree because its from a foreign university. I am a US citizen though!

You will probably be fine, but just keep in mind that there’s no such thing as a safety school really. Every year, people with high stats get shut out with no acceptances. Apply broadly and use the MSAR.

Do you have 90 credits from US?
