Does anyony have any info on what the current level of competitiveness is for new applications for the class of 2012 or how many seats are left at the different schools?

I just sent in my application today, and I'm worried that it might be too late. My GPA is 3.38, science is a little lower. I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but I have taken the GRE and done well.

Any thoughts?? 😕

I'd say without the MCAT you're at a huge disadvantage..

As far as your GRE's....I'm not sure as to who will honor them at this point...I've heard MAYBE AZPOD will...but it's sort of a catch-22 because they are notably one of the more competitive programs and their class will probably be filled soon...

Do I think it's worth a shot to apply now and schedule your MCAT for late May?

Yes- if you don't care where you want to go, I'm sure there will be at least 1-2 schools that will still interview/accept you before your MCAT is taken...

No- if you are picking and choosing where you want to be and want some more time to thoroughly research the schools ...

👍 Good Luck

Thanks for the input. I was hoping for scholl, but I guess I will have to wait and see if anyone will take me at this point. I am registered for a May MCAT if that helps.
... Sigh... I guess only time will tell 😳

FYI~
I don't know how many seats Scholl has left, but I interviewed last Monday, and there was one girl who I interviewed with who had not taken the MCAT yet. They may be getting more selective though, as the number of seats gets smaller, because I noticed that most people on this site received notification that they were accepted 2 days after their interviews and Mandy told us that it would be 10-14 days (I am still waiting to hear back). You should call the school and ask how many seats are available, and explain your situation. Mandy was very nice and I believe she could be helpful.

You'll need the MCAT for Scholl, they dont take anything else. There are rumors of the DAT being accepted but I believe that is in extreme situations. I have a very strong background (grades, letters, shadowing experience) and Scholl told me, MCAT only.

Only Temple and AZPOD will take the general GRE I believe. And AZPOD is quite tough to get in, so I'm sure it requires a very high score on this test.

Thanks for the info about Scholl, Longstech. That was helpful. I will definitely call, and Good Luck to you!
:luck:

DMU only accepts the MCAT...I believe our average from last year was a 23 (?) and I think that most schools are right around 21-23.

Do you think calling the admissions office too much could count against you?? I have more questions (mainly whether or not to move my MCAT to April 19th and therefore possibly get a lower score, but get my scores to them quicker, or keep it on May 27th and do a little better)

I have called several times before (Scholl admissions) and they are always very helpful, but the thought occured to me that maybe they find too many questions to be annoying or something?

Any thoughts on this? 🙂

I don't think it will count against you in any way. If you have questions, that is what they are there for and most love their job and want to help you out as much as possible! I would do them a favor though and try to get as many questions answered at one time as you can. This way you won't feel so guilty calling in the next time. GL 👍

Asking many questins would never put you at a disadvantage, at leat not at Scholl. The Admissions office (and Mandy Meinhart in particular) is fantastic and indispensable, and they certainly understand applying to schools is stressfull. We're all med students; Type A people who like to have things their way and have it done yesterday....

that was my exact situation too. i applied late in the application cycle because i didnt even know they were still accepting people for Fall 08. as a result, this meant moving my MCAT several months earlier to April 19th (i had originally planned on taking it much later). i applied to 3 schools in february and got 3 interview invites but only interviewed at barry last month. later that month i got a *waitlist* with a provisional acceptance saying that the class for Fall 08 was already filled and if a seat opened up then i would be accepted granted everything was in. when i recieved this letter they obviousely did not have my mcat score and i'm not even sure if they had my official transcripts and LOR (they should have but i never recieved an email back after i asked? i recently wrote again and am waiting to hear if they did). anyways, i figured since i was already provisionally accepted i could push my mcat back to the latest date that still allowed me eligible for Fall 08, which happened to be May 27th. even though this date is still much earlier than i had originally planned, i would rather atleast allow that extra month of studying then had i took it this month! needless to say i am studying my a** off for it now. just because i have a provisional acceptance i still want to do well on it, it's a personal thing. but don't take the mcat if you're not ready!

also, the last day to reschedule from the April 19th mcat to the May 27th was April 5th and it costs $50 to do so. however, if you have not yet even signed up go ahead and try to get a spot for the may 27th mcat. have you started studying? if not that is already really pushing it (and the april one would be suicide). if you absolutely want a spot in the Fall 08 class, my advice is to hurry up and apply to the schools right now and get your transcripts/LOR in ASAP. if you get an interview, go to that ASAP, and note on your application and interview that you are taking the mcat on may 27th, start studying for the mcat NOW, then hope for the best.

I was wondering if I should complete an MD/PhD in my "off" time. I figure I could do it during my 3 week break this summer. Here are my stats: Overall GPA = 7.76 MCAT = 455ZZZ Kicked Chuck Norris' a$$ = 3/5 attempts

Has anyone who recently interviewed NOT been accepted??? (And where?) I know people don't like to post that kind of info, but it will be much appreciated = )

A couple of the schools have reached their cap and are on a waitlist by now. You should call the ones you are interested to find out.
